Score Prediction: Colts Find Delicious Pay Dirt In Duval
Week Two is set up to be another knock-down, drag-out divisional game for the Colts. They’re going into Jacksonville, a place where wins have been scarce since September 21, 2014.
After a disappointing ending in Houston last week, the Colts are up against another tough defense. Duval Drop Back Managing Editor Ken Bailey, Indy Intercept Contributing Writers Justin Perkins and Steve McGinty, and Indy Intercept Managing Editor Meghan Hall, are sharing their score predictions for the upcoming Colts-Jaguars matchup.
Ken Bailey: Jaguars 34, Colts 17
The Indianapolis Colts travel to Jacksonville to take on a young Jaguars team starving for yet another win in DUUUVAL! Whether Jim Irsay disturbed ancient burial grounds in Northeast Florida or the ghost of Andrew Luck’s healthy body sought a voodoo witch doctor to curse the franchise, the Colts haven’t been able to win in Jacksonville since 2014! I expect this week to be no different, as the Colts could potentially be with out all-pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard & wide receiver Michael Pittman, Jr.!
Last season, Jacksonville did a great job containing the league’s number one rusher and keeping the game in the air. I believe this improved Jaguars team will start quick and walk out of TIAA Bank Field with a victory over Indianapolis: 34-17.

Justin Perkins: Colts 20, Jaguars 17
First overall 2022 draft pick Travon Walker and crew will be looking to slow down the team’s rushing attack and star running back Jonathan Taylor. With the Jaguars holding the Washington Commanders running backs to just 66 yards on the ground, the Colts will need their passing game to be more efficient and effective this Sunday. Will the front seven of Jacksonville create pressure and force Matt Ryan into costly turnovers? Can Colts receivers step up their game and give Matt Ryan more confidence in anyone other than Michael Pittman, Jr.?
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was spreading the ball around, totaling 275 passing yards and one touchdown last week. Jacksonville’s running back duo, James Robinson and Travis Etienne, combined for 113 rushing yards and one touchdown. The young group continues to gel and last week’s 117-yard receiving game by newly acquired wide receiver Christian Kirk shows their offense can produce yards. Can they turn those yards into points? This week, I see this game being close, with a score of 20-17, as the Colts snap the losing streak in Jacksonville.

Steve McGinty: Colts 42, Jaguars 12
The Colts will come out swinging with a quick 14-0 lead that includes a pair of touchdown passes from Matt Ryan. The defense is going to swarm to create some early three-and-outs. Predictably, the Jaguars offense will pick up, but drives will only result in field goals. Of course, Matt Ryan will have another game with over 300 yards, and Jonathan Taylor will provide over 125 yards on the ground and three touchdowns to match. I’m even predicting a Michael Strachan touchdown this week! The final score will be Colts: 42-12.

Meghan Hall: Jaguars 28, Colts 21
Know your enemy: the team has not won in Jacksonville since 2014. In my mind, that doesn’t change. Unfortunately, this young offense will need a few more games to find its groove. Last week, we saw the team show some resiliency by storming back from down 17 points, but that is not a recipe for success. Also, rookie wide receiver Alec Pierce is in concussion protocol and that (likely) means one less target for Matt Ryan. Who else will step up? (Mo Alie-Cox and Kylen Granson, I’m looking at you!)
On the opposite side of the ball, the defense also gave up twenty points to the Texans, and I can see it happening again this week, even with Shaquille Leonard (presumably) back. The Jaguars always play some of their best football of the year against the Colts. In the end, look for Christian Kirk to have 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Travis Etienne, will also throw in a 40-yard ”turned on the burners” touchdown. I’m sorry, Colts fans: Jaguars, 28-21.
