Shady Is Heading To The Eagles Hall Of Fame

The Philadelphia Eagles are honoring yet another legend. LeSean McCoy, the franchise’s all-time leading rusher, will be inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame on Nov. 3.

McCoy leads all Eagles running backs in franchise history with 6,792 rushing yards during his six-year Eagles career. Famously known as Shady, McCoy is No. 2 in rushing attempts behind Wilbert Montgomery and No. 3 in rushing touchdowns behind Steve Van Buren and Montgomery.

The Eagles drafted McCoy No. 53 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. He burst onto the scene with a 1,000-yard season in just his second year in the NFL. Shady followed that up with Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors in his age-23 season, including 17 rushing touchdowns.

McCoy would earn three Pro Bowl invites and two First-Team All-Pro honors as a member of the Eagles. He led the league in rushing attempts, rushing yards, rushing yards per game, touches and yards from scrimmage in 2013.

Former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly traded the All-Pro running back before the start of the 2015 season in a move that shocked everyone around the NFL. McCoy was about to turn 27 years old and was in the prime of his career. The Eagles received linebacker Kiko Alonso in exchange for the franchise’s all-time leading rusher. Alonso had a promising start to his young NFL career at the time, but many people were upset about trading away the Pennsylvania kid, McCoy.

McCoy went on to have three straight Pro Bowl seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2015 to 2017. Alonso only lasted with the Eagles for the 2015 season and started just one game. It’s fair to say the Eagles organization still regrets that move to this day.

Forever Enshrined In The Eagles Hall Of Fame

McCoy would end up finishing his career as a back-to-back Super Bowl Champion with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. He didn’t play much during those seasons, rushing for just a combined 496 yards and four touchdowns. Nonetheless, he has two Super Bowl rings to add to his impressive career.

McCoy rushed for 11,102 yards and 73 touchdowns in his 12-year career. He’s the NFL’s No. 22 all-time rushing yards leader and tied with Terry Allen at No. 30 on the all-time rushing touchdowns list. Not only was McCoy effective in running the football, but he was also a threat out of the backfield. The former Pitt Panther caught 518 passes for 3,898 yards and 16 touchdowns throughout his illustrious career. He was one of the most dynamic running backs of his time.

Eagles fans wonder what could’ve been if McCoy was never traded. McCoy also wonders the same thing. He firmly believes the team at the time could’ve brought a Lombardi Trophy to the City of Brotherly Love if they stuck together. Although he couldn't do that, being inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame is a major accomplishment and a well-deserved one for McCoy.
