Should The Patriots Trade For This Star?

The New England Patriots missed out on a chance to get a truly elite receiver this season. However, they have plenty of opportunities to acquire a new star receiver this year with the market shaping up to be very robust. Here is one star the Patriots can target in the trade market.

Brandon Aiyuk

The San Francisco 49ers are incredibly loaded with talent throughout their entire roster. With names such as George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Nick Bosa, and Fred Warner, San Francisco has the best roster in the NFL. However, having the best roster also means you have to pay all your best players.

A Majority of the 49ers best players have extended contracts, and Nick Bosa is due for an extension this season. Bosa will easily command over 28 million dollars per year. With so much money being allocated to stars already, Brandon Aiyuk could be a player San Francisco isn’t able to pay.

Aiyuk was featured as a number two receiver on the 49ers. Aiyuk is a star as he was able to record over 1000 receiving yards despite playing with Brock Purdy. The 49ers are a run-first team and they already have Deebo Samuel and George Kittle in more featured roles in the passing game. Considering Aiyuk's circumstances the fact that he was able to receive for over 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns shows that he is an elite receiver in the NFL. Aiyuk, similar to receivers like Tee Higgins and Devonta Smith, are wide receivers that almost any team could use.

Fit On Patriots

With Aiyuk ranking as a top-ten route runner in the NFL, he'd be a fantastic fit with Mac Jones. Aiyuk's speed on his routes and his route running is what makes him an elite receiver, and he has loads of untapped potential. Aiyuk can be a top-ten receiver in the NFL if he's a featured receiver. With Aiyuk likely going to command a large contract, it is a possibility he's going to be on the trade market.

The Patriots will need to make a very aggressive push for Aiyuk. New England needs a true speed threat, and Aiyuk's reliable presence would give the Patriots a dynamic playmaker on offense. The Patriots should be ready to offer a first-round pick and a fourth-round pick if Aiyuk is going to be shopped.
