Should The Patriots Trade For This Superstar?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and wide receiver Mike Evans are not able to negotiate a long-term deal, and all signs point to this being Evan's last year with the Bucs. Here's why the New England Patriots needs to make a move.

Transforms The Whole Patriots Offense

The Patriots' offense looked significantly better against the Eagles, with Mac Jones throwing for over 300 yards and Kendrick Bourne finally being utilized. Bourne proved to be a weapon receiving for two touchdowns and overall, a productive day for the offense.

However, New England still has another gear they can reach. Looking at all of the top AFC teams, they have a true star receiver who can bail their quarterback out when needed. Players such as Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, etc. Mac doesn't quite have that level of receiver on the team. Currently, New England doesn't have much room for error with their offense. Big plays will likely be limited.

Not being able to generate players of 30 or more yards once in a while is a tough way to win in today's offensive-oriented NFL. Mike Evans would provide a large frame and a player who can consistently get jump balls. Evans would unlock the Patriots' offense to a new level.

Mac Jones' Evaluation

As of now, New England still doesn't have a firm understanding of how good Mac Jones is. He's shown promise of being close to a top-ten quarterback when in the right situation, but last year he regressed significantly. Mac has not had a 1,000-yard receiver throughout his tenure, and he hasn't had the opportunity to play with a pro bowler yet.

Mike Evans is a proven commodity at the receiver position. He's had nine straight years with over 1,000 receiving yards and has caught 82 touchdowns. If the Patriots have Mike Evans at receiver and Mac Jones still looks underwhelming, the question is answered, then the Patriots can start looking at other options.

If Mac Jones breaks out and has a career year, New England will find their future at quarterback and will likely see themselves as a premiere team. The Patriots are one-star receiver away from being a true contender, and with Evans on the trade block and likely hitting free agency, this is New England's chance.
