Should The Warriors Trade For This Dynamic Center For 2024?
The Warriors lost to the Lakers in a blowout. What moves can they make to improve? After coming off of a playoff run, everything seemed to be going well for them. The Warriors had a great young core in James Wisemen, Jonathan Kuminga, Jordan Poole, and Moses Moody. They also had star veterans like Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to lead.
However, this wasn’t a roster built to win a championship. The Warriors lacked a consistent defense all year and had one of the worst records playing away. Curry was still fantastic averaging over 30 points per game, but the team around Curry is questionable.
What The Warriors Need
Golden State needs more paint presence and with Draymond Green’s contract due, they may look into a trade for a center. Lucky for them, the Suns also had a flameout in the playoffs. After trading for Kevin Durant, the Suns weren’t able to make it out of the second round.
Deandre Ayton was a massive problem for Phoenix, as his inconsistent play and lack of energy affected them a lot. Ayton is expected to be on the trade market this off-season, and he would be a great fit for the Warriors. He’s coming off a year averaging 18/10. Ayton is a big presence in the paint and a solid rebounding big. While his offensive scoring ability isn’t fully there, he can hit the mid-range jumper.
Ayton would be an upgrade over Kevon Looney, and he could potentially play with Draymond as Ayton is more skilled as a scorer than Looney. The Warriors could give up Jordan Poole. Poole is coming off of averaging 20 points per game, but he is still young and he is not a fit for the Warriors. The Suns are looking to move Chris Paul, and they want to get younger as an overall team.
Final Thoughts
A swap for Deandre Ayton and Jordan Poole seems like a win for both sides. Ayton is the big paint presence and rebounder Golden State needs. Poole is a flashy, capable scorer who can come off the bench and provide instant offense. The Suns desperately need another player who can provide a scoring punch. Poole would be much better for Phoenix.
