Should The Warriors Trade For This Superstar?

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

Could a potential superstar be available for the Golden State Warriors?

Flashback to 2018 when the Toronto Raptors swung a trade for Kawhi Leonard and won the championship, everything seemed to fall from there. After Kawhi left, the Raptors still had a terrific year in 2020 finishing as the second seed led by Pascal Siakam.

Siakam has emerged over the last few years consistently averaging over 20 points. However, this has not been enough for contention. After the bubble year, Toronto was not able to make it past the first round. Siakam is not a true one to lead a team, and with the Raptors rebuilding Siakam is available on the market.

Could He Extend The Warriors Dynasty?

The Warriors dynasty may be coming to an end, but Steph Curry is still playing at an elite level averaging 30 points on extremely good shooting splits. The Warriors need to swing a trade to extend their championship window, and trading for Siakam may be the move.

The Warriors are infamous for playing their small ball, but it has come to hurt them. Anthony Davis had a block party against the Warriors, and he was the main reason the Warriors lost. Golden State gave Jordan Poole a max contract, and he hasn’t lived up to it. Poole averaged 20 points this season and is still young, so he does have value.

A potential trade of Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, and a second or first-round pick for Pascal Siakam would be a good fit for both sides. Fred Vanvleet of the Raptors has a very questionable future with the team as his timeline doesn’t match. Scottie Barnes is a forward, giving him more opportunity to develop without Siakam.

Poole could get much more opportunity as a starter, and he could break out with Toronto and flash the talent that got him a max contract, to begin with. As for the Warriors and Siakam, the last few years have shown that Siakam is a star who can consistently average around 20 points but can’t be number one.

Steph Curry is already the established franchise cornerstone there, and a duo of Curry and Siakam would be a terrific one. Siakam is a big who defends extremely well, can average around 4-5 assists, and close to double-digit rebounds. Siakam provides a nice change of skillset. Curry and Siakam both bring different yet valuable skills that can help the Warriors significantly.
