Standout Offensive Linemen In The NFL Draft
This year's draft is abundant with talented and powerful offensive linemen, particularly in the offensive tackle position. The draft has a deep pool of talented tackles, with high Relative Athletic Scores and impressive film. We may even witness a record number of OTs being selected in the first round.
Standout Offensive Tackles
I've identified Joe Alt as the most promising offensive tackle prospect. He has an impressive film record, strong physical attributes, and a Relative Athletic Score of 9.91. At 6'8" and 321 pounds, Joe has a good build, though he could add more muscle. It's worth noting that he used to be a tight end. His long arms measure 34.25 inches, and he has demonstrated his agility with an impressive 4.51 Shuttle Run and a 7.31 3-Cone drill.
Patrick Paul is a talented tackle who is worth considering for the draft. Initially, he was projected to be picked on day 2, but his impressive performance at the NFL Combine has caused his draft stock to soar.
Standing at 6'7" and weighing 330 pounds, he still managed to run a 40-yard dash in just 5.14 seconds. Additionally, he scored an impressive 9.80 out of 10 on the Relative Athletic Score. Patrick's strength, technique, and patience make him a formidable opponent for any defensive end.
There's always a player who nobody knows about until the combine, and this year it's Frank Crum. Crum ran the 40-yard dash in 4.94 seconds and achieved a Relative Athletic Score of 9.82, which is impressive, ranking 25th among 1,314 tackles since 1987. Frank is a versatile player, having played at right tackle until last year when he switched to left tackle. He may also have the best hair in the draft.
Standout Offensive Guards and Centers
There was one offensive center at the NFL Combine who stood out the most, and that was Dylan McMahon. Dylan is 6'3" tall and weighs 299 pounds. He also ran a 5.1-second 40-yard dash. Since 2010, only 28 offensive linemen have recorded a 4.47 shuttle run or better at the NFL Combine.
Out of those 28, 24 were drafted and 84% of them went on to start in the NFL. Dylan is beyond athletic, with a Relative Athletic Score of 9.83. This score ranks him 11th out of 584 centers since 1987.
There was another lineman who caught the eye, the Offensive Guard from TCU, Brandon Coleman. Coleman is a complete package as he has both the film and the athleticism. He weighs 320 pounds and stands tall at 6'6".
He had a Relative Athletic Score of 9.98 out of 10, which ranks him 4th among 1,445 offensive guards since 1987. Brandon is an excellent pass protector and also doesn't miss an opportunity to pancake a defensive tackle while run-blocking.
