Steelers Could Acquire Former Pro Bowl Quarterback
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been searching to fix their quarterback situation since the retirement of future Hall-Of-Famer Ben Roethlisberger in 2022. After signing former Bears' quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who under performed in Pittsburgh and was released the other day, and drafting 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett, who has thrown for 4,474 yards, 13 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions with a 14-10 record through two seasons, the Steelers are looking for some competition in the quarterback room. With former Titans' coordinator Arthur Smith in town, the Steelers are favorites to sign Titans free agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Ryan Tannehill Would Bring Experience To Steelers
Ryan Tannehill was a first-round pick in 2012 by the Miami Dolphins, who started in Miami for seven years before taking over the Titans' offense in 2019. He led them to an AFC Championship Game appearance, made his first Pro Bowl, and won AP Comeback Player of the Year. He led the Titans to a 12-5 record in 2021 and the first seed in the AFC. With over 34K yards and 216 touchdown passes, Tannehill would bring experience and leadership to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.
Even if Pickett wins the battle and starts the season, don't count Tannehill out. He was Tennessee's backup in 2019 before eventually taking over and the rest was history. Could he pull off the same Cinderella story in Pittsburgh? While Tannehill had a forgettable injury-plagued 2023 season, he still can be a solid starter and even as a backup, he can help Kenny Pickett grow and improve.
