Stephen A. Smith Running For President Would Be A Giant Mistake
Stephen A. Smith is one of the most talented media personalities in the world, and it doesn't matter if you're watching him break down sports on ESPN or talking about whether Lightning McQueen is the goat of sports with his seven-piston cups.
Smith is one of a kind and has more talent than any late-night show host on television besides Greg Gutfeld, but the 57-year-old entertainer has not ruled out running for president of The United States one day.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States, and of course, the media pushed back hard on the election. Still, Smith is not your modern-day media member; he calls it as he sees it, no matter what side he is on.
On Thursday, Smith appeared on The View, one of the craziest television shows in the world, to discuss the election and ask if he would run for office in the future.
On3.com posted Smith's full quote about maybe running for office and stated, "I have said this on many occasions; the answer would be no because I like my life. I'm living a pretty good life," Smith said. "But I must confess, I wish I could debate some of these guys. I'd love to be on a debate stage against these guys. I'm half-joking but I kind of mean it. I mean I have no desire to be a congressional figure or a senator. But if you came to me and told me I had a legitimate shot to win the Presidency of the United States of America, I would consider it."
Smith is one of the best debaters you will ever watch, so it would be fun to see him challenge other politicians because they wouldn't know what was coming. But why in the world would he want to leave the life he is living and get into one of the worst businesses in the world?
Of course, Smith could run for president. This weird unwritten rule that only politicians can be the country's leader has been put to bed since Trump has now won not one but two elections, but would trading away talking sports and being a fantastic entertainer be worth all the trouble for a race you might not even win?
There is no question about how smart Smith is. He would be a breath of fresh air for the people running for president since he is not a politician. He is a great speaker, and people want change, and that's probably why Trump has now won two elections, so Smith would have that going for him.
However, once you commit to running for president with either party, 50% of the country looks at you differently. Smith will go from being a sports talk show host, which everybody loves, to a political figure who will rub people the wrong way for no reason.
I'm not trying to kill Smith's dream of being president one day because I think he would be a pretty good candidate, but sometimes getting into politics isn't for everyone, given how dangerous it gets and who else is going to go after how bad the Dallas Cowboys are every week in the fall if Smith is running for the Oval Office.
