Survivor Pick Week 4 (2024 NFL Season)

Week Four of the 2024 NFL season is here. As always, I will start by discussing the rules for a survivor pool. It is a weekly contest where people select one team per week, straight up, to win their game. If a chosen team wins, they advance to the next week but remember that the selected team can't be used for the rest of the season. If a team they chose for that week loses, they are eliminated from the pool.

Now that the rules are set it is time for me to give my top three options, a risky pick, a trap pick, and a survivor pick that I would have made if I were still alive in Survivor. It would have been nice for Cincinnati to prepare for their first regular season.

1. New York Jets vs Denver Broncos

It feels weird to consider the New York Jets as a survivor pick option, but here we are. Then again the Jets have a competent QB play for the first time since 2015 when Ryan Fitzpatrick was the QB. From how Rodgers performed, he looks like he has not lost a step.

The Jets fit the bill for the perfect defense is still legit, they are the home team, are not in a divisional matchup, and they have had extra time to prepare for this game. They are easily the top choice to make in survivor pools and currently, 19.6% of players are taking the Jets.

Now there are two main weaknesses with the Jets a lot of people are using to argue against taking the Jets this week. The first argument is their run defense is not good, but Denver's run game in general is bad. Javonte Williams is terrible and while Tyler Badie showed flashes, he did not look great either. The second argument is the Jets coaching staff is awful. However, the Broncos coaching staff is not great either.

If the Jets want to prove that they are a threat, then they should take care of business against the Denver Broncos.

  1. Houston Texans (vs Jacksonville Jaguars)

Normally a divisional game would be best to avoid in Survivor, unless one of the teams is absolutely trash, the jaguars are that definition of trash as they have looked horrible. Trevor Lawrence has regressed a ton and this has been the worst football he's played ever. Honestly, if it wasn't for Brandon Staley being a hack head coach and blowing a 28-0 lead, Lawrence would have never signed a 5-year extension with the team. While the Texan's secondary has been mediocre this season, Lawrence is going to have a rough time with this Texans pass rush, especially with how bad the blocking has been.

After what happened last week, there is a real chance Doug Peterson gets fired mid-season. With how angry ownership was last week, don't be shocked if the Jaguars get a new head coach next season. Honestly, it's stunning that Pederson and Trent Baalke weren't fired after last year's collapse.

The Texans offense should take care of business against this terrible Jaguars defense. No word yet on when the Nathaniel "Tank" Dell will be playing, but with how stacked the Texans offense is they should be fine. Houston brings home too heavily and attracts survivor pool players to take them in Week 4.

3. Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers

The Chiefs go on the list for sure. Not only because they are the Chiefs and they are a dynasty, but the Chargers are getting hit with the injury bug. Justin Herbert reaggravated his ankle injury and there is a real chance he won't play in this game. Both of their offensive tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater are injured as well and that will help the Chiefs defense provide pressure to whoever the QB is. Speaking of generating Pressure Joey Bosa, and Khalil Mack are injured and might miss the game as well. Derwin James is suspended which is a big blow to that secondary. If Kansas City is a legit team, they should handle business for against the Chargers.

Risky Pick of the Week - Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins

Miami season has been in trouble since Tua Tagovailoa got concussed in Week 2. It gets worse for Miami as their backup QB Skylar Thompson is dealing with a rib injury. The Dolphins are likely going to start Tim Boyle or Tyler "Snoop" Huntley. Both are not good options at all and yes Huntley was a pro bowler at one point. The problem was that the year Huntley went, nobody in the NFL wanted any part of participating in the event and he was the only one that said yes. The Dolphins have to regret cutting Mike White during the preseason because they could really use him at the moment.

Going back to this game, Tennessee may not be the home team, but they are in a very good spot with this matchup with the question at QB. Will Levis is a problem for the Titans as he has made some very dumb plays the past few weeks, but he's an upgrade over what Miami has currently. With how bad Miami's offense is, the Titans underrated defense should help control this game. It also helps that Mike McDaniel has looked clueless on the sidelines as well this season.

It's a risky choice as Tennessee is a very weird team and the game is in Miami, but this may be the best chance to take them in Survivor this week. The only other time you can maybe use them again is in Week 14 against the Jaguars, but who knows if Doug Pedersen will even have a job at that time. If you want to risk it, then go for Tennessee in Survivor this week.

Trap Pick of the Week - Philadelphia Eagles (at Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Many people are siding with Philadelphia in Survivor due to Tampa's poor performance against the Broncos last week, but it makes no sense. Out of all the teams with a 2-1 record, the Philadelphia Eagles are the biggest frauds in the NFL. They barely beat the New Orleans Saints last week and blew their game against Atlanta. The only game they looked solid in was against Green Bay in Brazil.

Philadelphia is also dealing with a lot of injuries at the moment. WR AJ Brown, WR Devonta Smith, and OT Lane Johnson have not practiced once this week and likely won't play against Tampa. Nick Sirianni has not done a great job as a head coach this season because he made some head-scratching decisions last week. It also hurts that Philadelphia is not the home team of this squad.

With Tampa being the home team, a higher team, and maybe even better-coached team, they should take care of business against an overrated Philadelphia Eagles team. Stay away from Philadelphia in Survivor and think about taking Tampa Bay in the spread pick.

Who I Would Have Taken in Survivor - Tennessee Titans

Week 3 was crazy and if you're still alive in pools, I will give you credit. As for this week, it's best to pass on the Chiefs this week. Kansas City has plenty of weeks to be used in Survivor in the middle of the season including Week 12 against the Panthers, Week 14 against the Chargers where they will be home, etc. The Jets are interesting, but there are still plenty of games to use them in Survivor. The games that stand out are Indianapolis in Week 11, Seattle in Week 13, and Jacksonville in Week 15.

This choice came down to the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans. You know, the Texans are the safer option, but this option to use Tennessee is too good to pass on. They have little to no future value in Survivor. So, if I was alive in Survivor I would have rolled the dice and taken the Tennessee Titans in Survivor.
