Survivor Picks Week 2 (2024)
Week 2 of the NFL season is here. As always, I will start by discussing the rules for a survivor pool. It is a weekly contest where people select one team per week, straight up, to win their game. If a chosen team wins, they advance to the next week but remember that the chosen team can’t be used for the rest of the season. If a team that they chose for that week loses, well they are eliminated from the pool.
Now that the rules are set it is time for me to give my top three options, a risky pick, a trap pick, and a survivor pick that I would have made if I was still alive in Survivor. It would have been nice for Cincinnati to prepare for their first regular season.
Baltimore Ravens vs Las Vegas Raiders
The Baltimore Ravens did not look great last week. Lamar was shaky all game and his offensive line did him no favors. However, this is a really good spot for the Ravens. They are coming off a mini-bye playing on Thursday Night Football. Baltimore has extra time to prepare for this game and face the Raiders who did not look great against the Chargers. They should take care of business against Baltimore and ensure a majority of players in Survivor advance to Week 3.
2. Houston Texans vs Chicago Bears
Caleb Williams is a great player, but last week he was horrible. He made some really bad throws and just looked lost all game. It didn't help that his offensive line did a terrible job blocking for him on a very mediocre pass-rushing Titans team. Now they have to face a much better defense in the Houston Texans. To make it even worse Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen are dealing with injuries and might miss this game against the Texans.
The Bears got lucky winning last week, but they're going to face a much better offense and better QB play. This is a nice spot to choose the Texans.
3. Los Angeles Chargers at Carolina Panthers
After the complete domination Carolina had to endure against the Saints and losing Derrick Brown for the season, Carolina is going to be a team many survivor players are going to pick against. This week the Panthers have to play against the Chargers. The Chargers are a mediocre/below-average football team, but compared to Carolina, they are better in every way.
It's a bit of a shaky pick as the Chargers aren't a home team and a West Coast team playing East Coast impacts a team. However, the Chargers should take care of business this week. The chargers currently are the 2nd most popular pick of the week with 24.2% of players in pools taking them.
Risky Pick of the Week - Washington Commanders vs New York Giants
Divisional Games are extremely risky, but this makes a lot of sense. The Commanders have a ton of promise and showed flashes in Week 1. The Giants only showcased disappointment and are the worst team in the NFL not named the Carolina Panthers. Washington is the home team and barely has any future value in future survivor pool options. This may be the best chance to take the Commanders.

Trap Survivor Pick - Indianapolis Colts (at Green Bay Packers)
The Colts rose in survivor pool selections for week 2 the moment Jordan Love got injured. The Packers are likely going to start Malik Willis at QB who is terrible. In the 3 games he previously started, he's never thrown a touchdown and had a really low completion percentage. The Colts seem like a good option for that alone, but there are three main problems.
The first is that the Packers are coming off a mini-bye week as they played on Friday. Does Green Bay have extra time to prepare for this game?
Second, the Colts' run defense is terrible as Joe Mixon last week ran all over them. Josh Jacobs is going to have a big game this week. Emmanuel Wilson might be a sneaky deep fantasy option if Marshawn Lloyd misses the game due to an injury.
The third reason is Green Bay is the home team and in Survivor pools it's better to pick a home team.
The Colts looked solid last week against Houston and Anthony Richardson was impressed with some of the throws he made in this game. However, in regards to this week, this game has a trap written all over it. Stay away from this game in Survivor.

Who I Would Have Taken In Survivor - Los Angeles Chargers
While I have been eliminated in Survivor Pools thanks to the Bengals losing to the Patriots in Week 1, I am still going to make selections that I would have made if I was still alive in Survivor.
The Texans have a ton of future value in Survivor, so I would have saved them in this spot. The Commanders are a tempting pick, but it's too risky with this game being a divisional matchup. This pick would have come down to the Ravens and Chargers. The Chargers don't have a ton of future value in Survivor and the Panthers are just horrendous. I would have taken the Los Angeles Chargers at this spot.
