Talking Jets: The Revenge Game

With the New York Jets ready to face a desperate Cincinnati Bengals team a major storyline that no one is talking about is the Revenge game is about to go down. This will be the first time since leaving the Bengals that both CJ Uzomah and Carl Lawson will face their old teammates, coaching staff, and ultimately get the opportunity for Revenge. The Bengals chose Trey Hendrickson over Carl Lawson which could not have felt good and the Bengals wanted to keep CJ Uzomah but undervalued him in his eyes. This is an opportunity for them to go out there and prove that the Bengals made a mistake and that even with the Super Bowl appearance they moved onto greener pastures. Gotham Green pastures that are!

Will C.J. Uzomah Prove Cincinnati Wrong?

This game must feel a little more bitter-sweet for CJ than Carl because CJ Uzomah was part of the Super Bowl team last year and he was a solid contributor. He played all 16 games for them last year caught the ball 49 times for 493 yards and got into the end zone 5 times. He was also a big part of the blocking unit that helped the team achieve a total of 1742 rushing yards all season. He even helped the team in the playoffs posting up 15 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown.

After being on the Bengals for 7 years. Through all the downs and sticking around and seeing the rebuild finally come to fruition, to have the team undervalue you and let you walk has to hurt a bit. Football is a business but to be let go after the team finally is good after 7 years of being bad, has to be a difficult pill to swallow. This game is an opportunity for CJ Uzomah to show the world and the Bengals that they made a mistake not keeping him and that he is an important player and that the New York Jets got better and the Bengals got worse by letting him go.

You hope that CJ Uzomah remembers Scheme, playbook, and team tendencies. Having an inside track on how Zac Taylor might call offensive plays.

Can Carl Lawson LEAD This Defense?

Carl Lawson isn’t the type of player to hold a grudge or even take the business of football personally. We know that, he told us that he is still friends with a bunch of the players and coaching staff over in Cincinnati. That being said the opportunity to prove your old team wrong by sacking their franchise Quarterback would feel incredibly good. Lawson was a productive member of the Bengals. While he was never the sack leader he always led the team in another just as important stat, QB Pressures. After missing all of last season due to an Achilles injury there are a whole lot of eyes on Carl Lawson. With the New York Jets having an out-from-underneath Carl’s contract at the end of this year and this being the first team that the New York Jets are facing where we can fully unleash our pass rush. What better way to let the league and the New York Jets fans know that you are that dude than by showing up with a huge game against your former team?

A Big Game For The Jets And Carl and CJ

Carl Lawson is a leader in this defense. When he gets going it becomes contagious and the rest of the team matches his energy. With a fanbase that expects big things from him, he needs to prove not only to the New York Jets fans and front office that he was worth going out and getting but to the Cincinnati Fans and Front Office that letting him walk and choosing Trey was a mistake.

CJ Uzomah is a veteran presence in an insanely young offensive unit. He needs to not only lead these players in the locker room but be a leader on the field. If CJ Uzomah is out there giving 110% on all of his reps, the rest of the team will see it and match his intensity. While CJs impact won’t ever really show up on the stat sheet we will all see it in the way this team suits up on Sundays and plays their hearts out.

This is a make-or-break game for both the New York Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals. Both teams have a chip on their shoulder and both teams are out there fighting for their seasons. Cincinnati is trying to prove that they aren’t suffering from the dreaded super bowl hangover, while the New York Jets are trying to cash in on those receipts Rober Saleh has been saving. No matter the outcome Sunday should be a great outing game for everyone involved.
