Texas Could Get Screwed Over Big Time
After watching the first half of the Big 12 title game, I think Texas is one of the four best teams in college football. Texas had its way in the entire half with the 18th-ranked team in the country, Oklahoma State.
I will go out on a limb here and say Texas will win the game, and if they blow their 35-14 halftime lead, then everyone should be fired.
Assuming Texas doesn't collapse in the second half, the Longhorns will be 12-1 and could still be sitting at home and watching the playoffs on television.
Texas Needs Help
Texas should be a playoff team, but will they? If all results hold, that would be Georgia beating Alabama, Michigan beating Iowa, and Florida State beating Louisville. Texas will be on the outside looking in.
Washington already claimed one of the four spots on Friday night after beating Oregon to finish with a perfect record of 13-0.
Of course, if Florida State or Georgia were to lose, Texas would slide into one of the four spots because a 12-1 Texas is way better than a 12-1 Florida State. Texas beat Alabama head-to-head earlier this season, so they should get in over them since both teams would have the same record.
Michigan has the easiest conference championship of the bunch, having to play Iowa, so there is no way they will lose. We will have them claim the second of the four playoff spots.
It's simple: Texas is in if Alabama or Louisville were to win, but both teams are underdogs in their game, so it will be an uphill climb.
However, if both do lose, that would give Georgia the number one spot in the playoff, and that would also mean Florida State would finish at 13-0, and there is no way an undefeated power five team is getting left out.
Is Texas is a better football team than Florida State, of course, at the end of the day, Texas has a loss, and Florida State doesn't and that will be the only reason Texas will not be in the playoff.
Texas has one of the best wins all season on the road at Alabama, but being unable to play defense on the last drive against Oklahoma will cost them a spot in the playoff, which stinks because Texas is an excellent football team. You can't tell me they are not among the four best teams.
