The 2024 Boston Celtics Are The Least Likeable Boston Sports Team of All Time
A soft star player, a strange head coach, and a team with significantly more talent than heart.
Boston is known for being tough and blue-collar. It's a cold town, and the long winter months drag on much longer than they should.
As such, its sports teams inherently participate in that culture.
A Tough Town
Think of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. They were no-nonsense guys who cared about nothing other than winning. Despite that dynasty featuring the greatest quarterback of all time, many of those Super Bowl-winning teams were built on the run game and defense.
Kevin Garnett. That guy has the word "toughness" written on his forehead. Paul Pierce had that ethos, too.
Bostonians also love hockey- the sport arguably featuring the toughest athletes in the world.
Jayson Tatum
And then there's someone like Jayson Tatum.
Before deciding to attend Duke, he went to Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis (9:1 student-to-teacher ratio, 24k a year). He's a private school kid, and you can kind of tell.
Throwing up his hands in the air after not getting a call, constantly taking step-back threes, and disappearing at the end of games isn't a great way to win over the hearts of Boston sports fans.
They give him a pass (because he's still really good and has indeed accomplished a lot), but I struggle to understand why Jayson Tatum isn't currently the most hated man in Boston.
And would you just look at the Celtic's roster for a second? They have the most talented starting five in years. Having Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum is unfair.
I don't want to hear about the Kristaps Porzingis injury when the Celtics lose the 2024 NBA Finals and cement themselves as the least likable Boston sports team ever.
