The Cavs Season is Now On Thin Ice

I don't know if there is a city that has been hit harder with injury in 2023 than Cleveland. Their professional football team, the Browns, has been hit the hardest with injuries in the NFL, and now their basketball team, the Cavaliers, is going down the same dark path.

That was a huge blow the Cavs could not afford to take. They are now down not one but two stars, and the team has been underwhelming so far this season.

The Cavs are currently on a three-game losing streak and have a 13-12 record, which puts them ninth in the East.

Head coach J. B. Bickerstaff seems like he will be around only a bit longer, and I'm surprised he had made it this far after their embarrassing performance against the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs last season.

All-Star Donovan Mitchell is currently in the second year with the Cavs and has player option after next season, and he has been someone who seems like they want to avoid committing long-term to the organization.

It's the worst-kept secret in the NBA that Mitchell wants to return home and play for the New York Knicks.

The Cavs can't afford to lose him and get nothing in return; with him not committing long-term and heading into the final year of his contract, the Cavs might have to pull the trigger and move him at this year's deadline if things do get out of hand.

It will be tough to win without Garland and Mobley, and they have a head coach who doesn't know what is happening half of the time.

It was supposed to be a bright future in Cleveland with all these young stars, but after last year's playoff collapse and this year's rough start, the Cavs might have to get off of this ride and start entirely over soon.
