The Charlotte Hornets Did The Right Thing With Kemba Walker
It was made official a few weeks ago that Kemba Walker was retiring from basketball. Kemba is the greatest player in Charlotte Hornets history. While he had a really rocky exit with the team the organization did the right thing with him.
It was announced that Kemba Walker will be returning with the Charlotte Hornets, as a part of Charles Lee's coaching staff. He will be the Player Enhancement Coach. Kemba will help guide the youth on this roster and help enhance talent's skills with the team overall.
This move clearly shows that things are changing organization-wise. Look at how the previous organization ran things and badly parted ways with Kemba. It was disrespectful that Michael Jordan lowballed Kemba Walker the way he did. Hornets fans are still hurt by it. Luckily the Hornets got Terry Rozier due to the increased cap space, but Kemba was the heart and soul of that franchise.
This is easily the best move that Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin have made since buying the team last year. Repairing the relationship with the greatest player in Hornets history was a tremendous achievement and it's great seeing him back in the team's good graces. The organization did the right thing and rewrote a wrong committed in the Jordan era.
There's only one last thing that needs to be done, Charlotte. It's time to retire #15. Not only should his number never be worn again and raised in the Spectrum Center, but the NBA needs to induct Kemba into the hall of fame. He may not have one an NBA championship, but on the court in his prime he was dominant.
