The Red Hot Chicago Bears Are Ready To Take The League By Storm

The Chicago Bears have struggled as a franchise over the last two decades. Since 2000, they have had 17 losing seasons, including three of the last five. Most years, Chicago has faced challenges such as quarterback issues, coaching problems, and a lack of star players on both sides of the ball, making it difficult for them to find success.

Interestingly, each winning season during this period has resulted in a playoff berth, such as being the Super Bowl runner-up in 2005 and the NFC Championship runner-up in 2010. This history shows that a successful regular season is crucial for the Bears, often leading to post-season success.

The 2024 season has been positive for Chicago, with six weeks of play completed. They have a 4-2 record and are on a three-game winning streak, making them one of the league's hottest teams. Following a 35-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, Chicago is playing some of their best football, and it all starts with their new franchise leader.

Its Starts At Quarterback

In April 2024, a new era began when Chicago selected USC quarterback Caleb Williams as the No.1 pick in the NFL Draft. Williams is currently in his crucial rookie season, leaning on veterans and coaches as he navigates the highs and lows of being a rookie quarterback in the NFL. After poor performances in his first two games, Williams has seemingly passed his early season growing pains and is now starting to show superstar potential.

His play-making ability, particularly his unorthodox throwing style, set him apart from the rest of the draft class. Williams has become a human highlight reel, known for his ability to extend plays (throwing on the run or running for the first down) and making the correct passes. His poise in the pocket has also been impressive, and he has seemingly adjusted to the speed of the NFL quicker than most would.

In the last game against the Jaguars, Williams played a perfect for a rookie quarterback, completing 23 of 29 passes for over 220 air yards and four touchdowns. His 79 percent completion percentage is the best mark for a rookie quarterback attempting 25 passes in a game and collecting four touchdowns. This outstanding performance earned him the FedEx Air Player of the Week for week six.

This Offenses' Potential Has Not Been Reached

Williams is proving himself as the potential "next big star" in the league and owes a lot to the talented players around him. Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, D'Andre Swift, and Rome Odunze (when healthy) have formed a formidable core. Each player brings unique skills, creating a powerful combination of speed, toughness, and high IQ, giving Williams an advantage as a quarterback.

The group has a lot of potential, but the four players have only been able to play three games together, and they have not all had outstanding performances on the same day. Both Allen and Odunze have dealt with early-season injuries but have developed a good rapport with Williams in their limited time together. As the season progresses and their chemistry with Williams grows, we can expect to see even more from this talented group. When they are at their best, this offense has the potential to be one of the best in the NFL.

Looking Ahead

The Bears have had a solid start to the season, winning four games before their week seven bye. While their schedule has not been the most challenging, they have performed well against weaker teams, outscoring their opponents 71 to 26 in weeks five and six. Currently, they rank in the top 12 in points scored and points per game in the NFL. Their defense has also been impressive, ranking 6th in both points and yards allowed per game, with seven interceptions, six fumble recoveries, and 19 sacks as a team.

Linebackers TJ Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds and safety Kevin Byard III have anchored this heavily improved defense.

Their upcoming schedule does get more challenging. Four of their next five games are against teams with winning records, including the dynamic Washington Commanders and the undefeated Minnesota Vikings. This will be a true test for the Bears to prove themselves as contenders in the NFC.
