The Next Patriots Head Coach Has Been Decided And It's Shocking
According to Ian Rapoport, Jerod Mayo will likely be the next head coach, and the process will be simple, given his contract details.
Bill Belichick retiring was the biggest news story of the day, and there are countless opinions from Patriots fans, it seems the coach is already decided. Jerod Mayo played and coached under Belichick.
Mayo has coached on the defensive side of the ball since 2019. He is a well-known leader and having played in the league, connects well with players.
Given that they didn't waste too much time moving on from Belichick, the Patriots have plenty of time to interview multiple candidates. They are not required, though, if they choose Mayo. Mayo's contract includes a plan to have him succeed Belichick whenever he was gone. That creates a loophole that will allow the team to hire him immediately.
While nothing is completely set in stone, it seems Robert Kraft is ready to move forward with a familiar face as the Patriots next head coach.
