The Cleveland Guardians Call Up One Of Their Top Prospects
The last month of the MLB season has arrived, and the Cleveland Guardians are trying to win the A.L. Central for the first time since 2022.
Cleveland currently has a 2.5-game lead in the division, but that could change quickly. On Monday, Cleveland heads for a three-game series with the team right behind them, the Kansas City Royals.
With September here, MLB rosters expanded to 27 players, and on Sunday afternoon, Cleveland called up a familiar face.
The Guardians called up first baseman/designated hitter Kyle Manzardo, who will bat sixth on Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Manzardo is the third-ranked prospect in the Cleveland farm system, according to MLB.com.
The 24-year-old first baseman played one stint with the team earlier this season, appearing in 30 games and batting .207 with 17 hits and 10 doubles.
Manzardo will play a significant role if Cleveland wins the division because he should be back in the lineup almost every night.
Cleveland needs Manzardo's bat in a big-time way, and if he can deliver, it will take pressure off the top guys in the lineup like Steven Kwan, Josh Naylor, and José Ramírez.
The Guardians were once one of the hottest teams in baseball, but they hit a bumpy road the last few weeks. Hence, it's nice to turn the calendar over to September when they could stop thinking about the brutal August and look forward to the last few regular season games and the postseason.
