The Cleveland Guardians Receive Brutal News On Their Star Player

The Cleveland Guardians' season ended almost three weeks ago after they lost in five games to the New York Yankees in the ALCS. Even though they failed to win the World Series again, the year was still successful.

Cleveland learned much about its young players, including David Fry, who made the All-Star game in his second season.

Fry has a lot of roles on the team, from playing catcher, first base, third base, outfield, and designated hitter, but towards the end of the season, Fry only saw the field as the DH.

The 28-year-old suffered an elbow injury in the last few months of the season, which prevented him from a fielding position.

According to Mandy Bell from MLB.com, the Guardians received brutal news on Monday: "David Fry underwent surgery to repair a ligament in his elbow. The timetable to return as a DH is 6-8 months. It'll take 12 months for him to return to playing the field."

It doesn't sound like Fry will even be close to starting the season with the big league club, and there is a good chance he will not be on the field until at least June.

The Guardians already face a vast roster issue with first basemen Josh Naylor. He was expected to be traded this offseason since he is heading into the last year of his contract, but now, with the Fry news, Naylor might have to stay.

Cleveland has one of the best front offices in the game, so they will figure out how to work around the Fry injury, but a few days into the offseason, it wasn't the news any Guardian fan wanted to hear.
