The Dallas Cowboys 2024-2025 Season: A Crucible Of Catastrophe
The Cowboys' 2024-2025 season is an unequivocal disaster. Many have already abandoned hope, even though the season has not yet ended. The season began with a glimmer of hope, but a series of defeats, along with Prescott's injury, has crushed the team's chances. This year's outcome seems almost certain.
Prescott And The Way Forward For The Dallas Cowboys
Prescott's substantial contract extension made him the highest-paid player in the NFL. In the end, things did not pan out as expected. Dak Prescott will miss the rest of the season due to an injured hamstring. Per Yahoo,
Prescott suffered an injury to his hamstring, partially tearing it off the bone, and will be out for the rest of the season.
Though it is certainly discouraging for the quarterback, for some it raises ire. Given the current standings of the Dallas Cowboys, a question arises: why did Prescott receive such a large contract extension again?
Jones Lays It Out: Dallas 2024-2025 Season Is Catastrophic
There is plenty of information available regarding Dak Prescott's career stats. The metrics clearly show that he is not the worst quarterback in the league; however, he falls short in talent compared to his peers. A Fox 2024 ranking of the top ten quarterbacks shows Dak falling directly to center.
Mediocrity and promised expectations do not justify enormous payouts. So is Prescott the quarterback Jones believed him to be upon offering $240 million? Does Jones still have faith in his earlier decision? From recent interviews, it seems that not everything is peaches and cream. Jones seems to be downright frustrated and not quite sure why he believed in Prescott in the first place.
According to ESPN, Jones recently commented,
"I'm sorry to sound cynical, but do you do the same calculations I do? We've only won three games with Dak. We clearly weren't performing well under him, and we're all aware of that. It's definitely a concern."
There is a very troubling perspective from the head honcho. Given the Cowboys' four consecutive home losses, who can blame him? When something is not working it's only fair to admit it.
Is That All Folks?
What is the next step for the Cowboys? Is it time to shift focus to the next season? With their chances of making the playoffs nearly gone and Prescott out for the season, can the tougher decision be made?
It is imperative to note that several players' contracts are nearing their end, and some are already considering their options. SportDFW reports that six members of the team will not return next season. Among them are DeMarcus Lawrence, Zac Martin, Ezekiel Elliott, Mike Zimmer, Trey Lance, and Mike McCarthy.
The One Choice To Rule Them All
A single major adjustment remains, a transition almost overwhelming in its demand. At this point, it seems like a critical but pertinent choice. Jerry Jones must loosen his grip and relinquish control. If all other options have proven ineffective, it then becomes necessary to pursue the unfavorable course of action.
What are the chances of Jones turning over ownership? Miracles do sometimes happen and logic at times prevails. The reality is that there is little likelihood for this to be the course taken. Jones is holding on much too tight.
