The Jags Need Travis Etienne To Be A Workhorse For Success

Travis Etienne looked like one of the biggest fantasy steals during the first 8 weeks of the season, with RB1 finishes in 6 of those weeks. Then, after the bye week, things screeched to a halt, with only 2 RB1 finishes in the last 8 weeks of the season. His touches went from 25 in weeks 1-8 to 18 touches in weeks 10-18.

It seemed like the offense underwent unnecessary changes during the bye week, using Etienne at a higher rate to lead the Jags to a 6-2 record before the bye. Then they stopped using him like a workhorse and went 3-6 and finished the season outside of the playoffs. Trevor Lawrence's dealing with injury issues definitely contributed to the lack of production because touchdowns were a major part of his four-week run as a consistent top-five running back.

Assuming Doug Pederson will see this trend and lean on Etienne more throughout the whole season rather than just the first half. The depth chart hasn't gotten any better behind him, and ideally, the offensive line should be healthier to give him more room to run. If managers can buy him for the cheap due to the second-half finish, it would be a decent shot at a super high potential player. The 4th round of dynasty superflex is a comfortable place to be adding him to your rosters. In one QB league, he should be a top-of-the-second-round type of player.

Our consensus projections for Etienne in the 2024 season are 283 carries for 1,231 yards and 8 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 57 receptions for 435 yards and 3 touchdowns.
