The Lakers Are Looking To Land This Youthful Star Guard This Summer

Updated: Jun 7, 2023

The Los Angeles Lakers season came to an end Monday night when they got swept by the Denver Nuggets. Star player Lebron James is talking about retiring, but we all know he will be back in a Lakers uniform next season.

The Lakers need to find some new pieces that could help get this team to the NBA finals, and one huge name was brought up on Tuesday.

The Lakers have had "internal discussions" about hypothetical summer trade proposals for Trae Young, per @jovanbuha pic.twitter.com/5i57QZ6xTO — Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) May 23, 2023

Young is the starting point guard for the Atlanta Hawks and is one of the best young guards in the league. Young has been in the league for five seasons and has been named an All-Star twice. He will turn 25 this September so he is still very young.

Will Young Join The Lakers ?

The Lakers will be looking for a handful of options to get a third guy to go with James and Anthony Davis.

The Lakers don’t have much time to figure out this roster since James will be 39 years old this year and could be done with the Lakers after next season.

James has a player option after next season and his son Bronny James will be draft eligible.

James has made it known that he wants to play with his son, and it makes sense for him to opt out of his contract and play with Bronny for the 2024-2025 season.

Los Angeles might have one more chance at a title with this core and that’s why you will see a handful of trade talks this summer for them to add another star.

I think adding Young will be a long shot. He still has three years left on his deal before he can opt out of his contract and the Hawks just made a trade for Dejounte Murray, so they still are in a window to compete.

Young would be an offensive upgrade but would bring no defense to the table.

I would be shocked to see Young in a Lakers jersey next season but never count out general manager Lebron James.
