NHL, Stadium Rant

The next generation of NHL players are going to have several challenges ahead of them throughout their careers. Skills are a bigger priority than physical toughness in the NHL which will force players to change their gameplay strategies. Poor marketing strategies and backlash from influencers will have a negative impact on the overall viewership of the NHL. Fans are having a hard time accessing NHL content due to their multiple partnerships and are changing the channel to a different sport.

More Focus on Skills and less on Physical Toughness

Bad Marketing Plans

The goal of the NHL is to address stereotypes that are made about the younger generation with the hopes of receiving more viewers. Several influencers gave the NHL some backlash because their marketing strategy doesn't connect with Gen Z at all. Dana White said, “F—‘em. They are all old, dumb f—ing people that have no idea what’s going on," White said of the NHL. "They have no idea where this younger generation is, how you reach them. Any of that s—t...".

The NHL is focused on reaching the younger generation by pushing back stereotypes in their advertisements which has the potential to backfire on them because influencers like Dana White are calling them out for not understanding their target audience.

The Decline of Fans and Viewership

NHL has been losing viewers and fans for over a decade because it's harder for fans to watch a game compared to other sports. It's not uncommon for the NHL to start later than their scheduled time which has a negative impact on its overall engagement rate with their viewers. Fans have a hard time watching NHL games because it's partnered with multiple networks like ESPN, TBS, and TNT which makes watching it inconvenient to some people. The NHL is also competing with other sports like football, baseball, and basketball which can impact how many people choose to watch it.
