The Panthers unpredictable offense still an issue as they fall to 1-5 in Week Six

The Panthers had a little momentum as they went into their Week Six matchup against the Rams. Christian McCaffrey was running the ball with purpose.

In their 24-10 defeat, CMC ran for 69 yards on 13 attempts and caught seven receptions for 89 yards. So far, he seems to be the entire offense, they play through him. Christian McCaffrey is 4th among all fantasy RBs in PPR points per game.

#Panthers running 53.8 plays per game, a historically low number. They've had league-worst QB play. Christian McCaffrey is 4th among all fantasy RBs in PPR points per game. And he hasn't missed a game. — Adam Levitan (@adamlevitan) October 17, 2022

Although CMC showed his talents, the struggling offense couldn’t move the ball down the field.

Panthers QB PJ Walker’s time is limited.

Walker didn’t live up to the hype.

In Walker’s first start of the year, he failed to get more than 100 yards passing. He was 10 of 16, completing 62.5 percent of his passes, with a 69.8 rating and a 5.6 QBR. Also, Walker’s longest completion in air yards was a one-yard pass. His other nine completions were behind the line of scrimmage.

Unfortunately, the Panthers Walker couldn’t finish the game due to a neck injury.

For comparison despite just playing a single drive, fifth string QB Jacob Eason had 59 passing yards on the game.

The Panther’s QB hindrance

With Baker Mayfield out two to six weeks, PJ Walker dealing with a concussion, and Sam Darnold still listed on IR, Jacob Eason may get his chance as the Panthers starter in Week Seven.

The Panthers are expecting Sam Darnold to be in practice as soon as Wednesday. With the former starter returning, it could be a trend in the right direction for the team.

The dilemma is, the team can’t succeed with any Carolina QB. The Panthers have one of the worst offenses in the league this year.

Panthers Wideout Insecurities

Former Carolina Panther, Robbie Anderson, was traded earlier this week, to the 2-4 Arizona Cardinals. Robbie is a deep-threat receiver, and when he’s turning on the jets, it’ll be hard to catch him. Kyler Murray, QB, and Anderson could be explosive with each other, especially with Rondale Moore and DeAndre Hopkins, who is officially activated to the 53-man roster. Anderson fills in nicely for Marquise Brown who looks set to miss serious time.

As far as other wideouts, such as DJ Moore, he’s facing a record-season low for catches, yards, and touchdowns. Moore is on pace for 57 catches, 578 yards, and three TDS.

DJ Moore on pace for 57 catches, 578 yards, 3 TDs in 17 games. No real hope is sight barring a surprising trade. Easily my biggest miss of season-long process, down so bad. — Adam Levitan (@adamlevitan) October 17, 2022

Final thoughts on the offense

The offense has strong starts, but weak finishes. Watching the offense struggle is causing the fans to go into a frenzy because it’s too embarrassing to watch. And it reached rock bottom in the loss on Sunday. CMC is the best player on the offense. He had most of the Panther’s offensive yards in Week Six. As the team struggled with 203 total yards, McCaffrey had 158 of those total yards.

I expect the Panther’s offense to continue struggling, especially with McCaffrey trade rumors lingering in the air.

However, the team has a chance in Week Seven against Divisional Rivals, Tom Brady, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who seem to be having issues with his team. However with the Buccaneers top defense, and the way Tom Brady has dominated Carolina since moving to South Florida, 1-6 is a real possibility.
