The Path To The College Football Playoff Is Simple For This SEC Team

In what was anticipated to be a college football season with the most parity in a long time, it seems that the cream is rising to the top. The top teams in the country don't surprise anyone, as the normal juggernauts are still there, competing for a spot in the college football playoff. In all of this, people are ignoring the Alabama Crimson Tide as a national title contender.

The Landscape Heading Into Week 9

In the latest AP poll, the top 10 featured few surprises.

The top six teams are undefeated, while the seventh and eighth-ranked teams each lost to one of those six teams. Following one loss Texas and Oregon is Alabama, and rightfully so. One of the major strengths that Alabama will have is strength of schedule. Based on the current ranks, they've played three ranked opponents, winning two. The most recent being an impressive second half comeback against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Alabama's Path To The College Football Playoff

Following a bye this week, the Tide will face 15th ranked LSU at home. Beating the Tigers would give them three ranked victories, ahead of contests against Kentucky, Chattanooga, and Auburn. All games they should win handedly to round out their season.

If Alabama wins the SEC West at 11-1, they'll likely face the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship. Without Brock Bowers at their disposal, they've looked mortal against teams like Auburn, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt. If Alabama defeats the reigning two-time national champions, they set themselves up very well with a 12-1 record and an SEC title.

Some things that could help the Crimson Tide include another loss by Texas, a loss by Florida State, Washington, and/or Oregon. Very simply put, the Crimson Tide control their own destiny, as a win over Georgia to cap off a one loss season would earn them a spot. After a sluggish start to the year, here come the Tide once again.
