The Philadelphia 76ers Re-Sign Their Hometown Player
In an announcement on Instagram, veteran guard Kyle Lowry confirmed that he is re-signing with his hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers. The six-time All-Star’s decision comes after weeks of negotiations with the 76ers’ president, Daryl Morey, and his agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports. The deal is for one year, so it allows him to stay with the team he grew up cheering for and gives Philly an opportunity to see what is left in the veteran.
Lowry’s return to Philadelphia adds depth and experience to the 76ers’ roster. Last season, he joined the team after being bought out by the Charlotte Hornets, contributing 8.0 points and 4.6 assists per game in 23 regular-season appearances. His impact was beyond his stats as he provided leadership for his younger teammates through the postseason.
The 38-year-old guard’s journey has been remarkable. After a successful tenure with the Toronto Raptors, where he won the 2019 NBA championship, Lowry signed with the Miami Heat in 2021. Now, he’s back in the City of Brotherly Love, ready to chase a title alongside stars like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
It's Been Quite The Offseason For The 76ers.
The 76ers have made significant moves this offseason, spending over $400 million to secure Paul George and retain Maxey. With Lowry’s leadership, they aim to break their Eastern Conference finals drought, which dates back to 2001. The revamped roster also includes free agents Caleb Martin, Andre Drummond, and Eric Gordon, along with the re-signed Kelly Oubre Jr.
It's great to see a veteran player stay with the team. Fans will be excited to see what Philly is able to accomplish in 2024/2025.
