The Philadelphia Eagles Add Veteran Star Receiver
The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly signed veteran wide receiver Julio Jones to a one-year deal. The former Alabama star and seven-time NFL Pro Bowler is expected to add depth to the Eagles’ pass-catching group and provide a much-needed boost to their offense.
Jones who was often linked to the Eagles in prior off seasons, will be reunited with his former Tennessee Titan teammate, A.J. Brown. The 34-year-old receiver is known for his great work ethic and Hall of Fame talent, which would make him a great fit in Philly. He is expected to be just behind Brown and third-year star DeVonta Smith on the depth chart.
The addition of Jones comes after the Eagles placed wideout Quez Watkins on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Philadelphia worked out Marquez Callaway and Dezmon Patmon on Monday before deciding to sign Jones.
Jones has 903 receptions for 13,629 yards and 863 touchdowns in his career so far. He played the first 10 years of his career with the Atlanta Falcons before spending 2021 playing for the Tennessee Titans. Last year, he caught 24 passes for 299 yards and a pair of scores in 10 games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Eagles’ decision to sign Jones gives quarterback Jalen Hurts a new weapon in his arsenal. Hurts had one of the worst games in his career this past week in his team's 20-14 loss to the New York Jets. Aside from A.J. Brown, receivers struggled to get open and hold onto the football. Jones will help provide a veteran presence to the locker room and provide much-needed depth beyond one of the top receiver duos in the league.
