The Showdown Is Back On: Iron Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul
The sports world was set a buzz when the news broke that Iron Mike Tyson would be stepping in the ring with Jake "Problem Child" Paul. It would certainly be one of the most interesting match-ups in a long time.
While many projected the win would go to Paul because of his age and stamina. Tyson in "beast mode" is nothing to play with. They don't call him the Man With The Iron Fist for nothing. When he connects its lights out.
The Tyson Era Of Domination
Tyson's boxing history is ironclad. As Forbes notes, out of 58 official titles, he closed the deal in 50. Of the remaining eight, only six were losses. Tyson won consecutively until his 38th fight against Buster Douglas in 1990. In fact, Tyson has only lost to four other fighters, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Danny Williams, and Kevin McBride. So undoubtedly Tyson is the better fighter.
Jake Paul Silences The Naysayers
The famed YouTuber turned boxer, Jake Paul, has surprised boxing fans. What seemed to be a gimmick at first has turned some into believers. When Paul stepped in the ring, he let the naysayers know he wasn't there to mess around.
As everyone knows, one bout does not make a fighter. Skill has to be confirmed. And Paul did just that. He won six straight bouts before losing one. The one loss was a split-decision, and after that loss, Paul came back stronger. He cleaned house with his next few wins. Six of his victories were knockouts, and one of those wins came against UFC fighter Nate Diaz, "The Stockton Slugger."
Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul Delayed
So expectations were high until untimely news dashed them. There would be no match-up. An ulcer flare-up rendered Tyson unable to step into the ring. Of course, speculation was high. Would the Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight be rescheduled? Although several feelers were put out for a potential replacement to take on Paul in Tyson's place, it just didn't pan out. It's not hard to admit it wouldn't be the same.
Mike Tyson vs. Paul New Date
On July 6th hope was restored. As USA Today reported, the Tyson vs Jake Paul match is back on and it's going down on November 15th at the same location at the AT&T Stadium, home to Dallas Cowboys. This is not the only good news surrounding the announcements. As most know, November is prime time for football. So there is one question sitting on the tip of tongues. Will the match be in conflict?
This is what USA Today reported:
"The event's organizer, Most Valuable Promotions, has meticulously planned around the Cowboys' schedule to ensure a smooth event. They chose the new date, Nov. 15, to avoid any conflicts with the Cowboys' football schedule; Dallas will host Houston on "Monday Night Football" on Monday, Nov. 18.,"
which is great news for boxing and football fans alike.
A Little Turbulence
There has been some interesting chatter surrounding Tyson's change of sentiments regarding getting in the ring with Paul. And he hasn't been the only one who's had some things to say about facing off against the "Problem Child." Muhammed Ali's grandson after reportedly being offered a large sum of money to step in the ring with Paul responded with an "I'll pass," but with a little more snark.
Hold Your Breath For Tyson vs. Jake Paul
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will have that face-off, at least for now. And if they don't, it's rumored Paul has someone else lined up that might satisfy the fans a little if Tyson falls through again.
