The Steelers Need To Upgrade This Key Position

Mike Tomlin just concluded another winning season and a playoff appearance, but it's clear that they're not a top-level contender yet. To win in the NFL a team needs dynamic quarterback play, and the Steelers need an upgrade at quarterback.

Highly Talented Steelers Roster

The Steelers have one of the better rosters in the NFL. Pittsburgh has an elite defense featuring the best defensive player in the NFL T.J. Watt. The Steelers have the seventh-best defense in the NFL and they're consistently able to win games off their defense limiting the other teams.

On the offensive side of the ball, Pittsburgh has lots of talented offensive weapons as well. A receiving duo of George Pickens and Diontae Johnson is one of the better duos in the NFL, paired with a young tight end with lots of potential in Pat Frieirmuth. The point is, the Steelers have a Super Bowl-caliber defense and a receiver in George Pickens who just needs a consistent quarterback to emerge as a truly elite receiver.

Kenny Pickett has started 23 games throughout his career, and he's thrown a total of 13 touchdowns in that span along with 13 interceptions. Offense has become increasingly more important over the last few years in the NFL, and Kenny Pickett hasn't shown the ability to conduct an offense at a high ability.

The pieces are all there for the Steelers, but not having an elite quarterback and having to go through a conference with Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen to become Super Bowl contenders is going to significantly lower the chances the Steelers have to truly contend.

Elite Division

The number one way a team can increase their chances to make and win the Super Bowl is by winning their division. Having a guaranteed playoff spot is a tremendous advantage, and a problem for Pittsburgh is that their division might be the best in the NFL.

The Ravens have an MVP quarterback in Lamar Jackson, the Bengals have a top-five quarterback in Joe Burrow, and the Browns potentially could have a quarterback advantage if Deshaun Watson can get back into form. Right away, the Steelers have the third-best quarterback in the division and a decent chance at having the fourth-best.

The Steelers are a historically great franchise with lots of success, they cannot get complacent at the quarterback position.
