The Top 10 Quarterbacks Going Into The 2024 NFL Season

Updated: Jul 31

The 2024 NFL season is approaching, so it's time to start ranking the best players for each position. The quarterback position is the most important on the football field, so it's only suitable that they are the first to be covered. The quarterbacks are the leaders of their teams and the players who make everything run smoothly. To kick things off, here are the top 10 quarterbacks going into the 2024 NFL season.

10: Caleb Williams, CHI, Age: 22

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Caleb Williams is as good as advertised, so he cracks the top ten despite being a rookie. Williams is coming into the season with a great supporting cast that features Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, and rookie Rome Odunze as receivers.

Williams was excellent in college at USC, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and giving fans some unbelievable highlights. His arm talent is comparable to some of the NFL's best, and he is an excellent runner. It will be interesting to see if the Bears can coach him to his fullest potential.

2023 Stats (USC): 12 G, 68.6% Cmp, 3,633 Pass Yds, 30 TD, 5 INT, 142 Rush Yds, 11 TD

Accolades: 2022 Heisman Trophy Winner, 2022 Pac-12 OPOY, 1x All-American

9: Jalen Hurts, PHI, Age: 25

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Last year, Jalen Hurts had a bit of a down year based on his turnovers, but his production was still off the charts. Hurts dealt with shaky coaching last year after Shane Steichen left for Indianapolis. Hurts is a good passer, which he pairs with his knack for getting into the end zone with his legs.

Hurts has put together three consecutive seasons of double-digit rushing touchdowns thanks to the "tush push." The Eagles made the Super Bowl two seasons ago and Hurts put up 374 yards and four touchdowns. Expect Hurts to put together another elite season in 2024.

2023 Stats: 17 G, 65.4% Cmp, 3,858 Pass Yds, 23 TD, 15 INT, 89.1 Passer Rating, 605 Rush Yds, 15 TD

Playoffs: 1 G, 71.4% Cmp, 250 Pass Yds, 1 TD, 0 INT, 100.9 Passer Rating

-Lost to Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Wild Card, 32-9.

Accolades: 2x Pro Bowl

8: Justin Herbert, LAC, Age: 26

Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert is among the most challenging quarterbacks to rank on this list. He's incredibly talented, but his teams have dealt with injuries and inconsistencies, which has made it hard for Herbert and the Chargers to make the playoffs. The Chargers are entering the Jim Harbaugh era, which means they should have an elite run game to take some pressure off Herbert.

The Chargers still have some glaring problems, including their receiver room. They just lost Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, two excellent receivers. They selected Georgia receiver Ladd McConkey in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Herbert and McConkey are looking to establish a connection and help the Chargers finally see some success.

2023 Stats: 13 G, 65.1% Cmp, 3,134 Pass Yds, 20 TD, 7 INT, 93.2 Passer Rating, 228 Rush Yds, 3 TD

Playoffs: N/A

Accolades: 1x Pro Bowl, 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year

7: Dak Prescott, DAL, Age: 30

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott put together the best season of his career in 2023, and he continues to prove that he's one of the top talents at the quarterback position. Prescott finished second in MVP voting, and for good reason. He was incredibly accurate overall and led the entire NFL in passing touchdowns.

Prescott still has yet to make an elite playoff run, which is why his case is not higher on this list. If Prescott can finally put together a Super Bowl run with the Cowboys, it will take a ton of pressure off his shoulders and earn him the respect he deserves.

2023 Stats: 17 G, 69.5% Cmp, 4,516 Pass Yds, 36 TD, 9 INT, 105.9 Passer Rating, 242 Rush Yds, 2 TD

Playoffs: 1 G, 68.3% Cmp, 403 Pass Yds, 3 TD, 2 INT, 89.8 Passer Rating, 45 Rush Yds

-Lost to Green Bay Packers in Wild Card, 48-32.

Accolades: 3x Pro Bowl, 1x Pass TD Leader, 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year

6: Jordan Love, GB, Age: 25

Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love became an absolute star in his first full season after being drafted 26th overall in 2020. Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers for multiple years, and it's done him wonders. Love had some inconsistencies at the start of the year but put together a nearly flawless second half.

Love put together a great season despite not having a great supporting cast, and he showed flashes of passing that looked identical to Rodgers. The Packers are set for the future as long as they have Love under center, and it'll be interesting to see if they make another playoff run this season.

2023 Stats: 17 G, 64.2% Cmp, 4,159 Pass Yds, 32 TD, 11 INT, 96.1 Passer Rating, 247 Rush Yds, 4 TD

Playoffs: 2 G, 67.3% Cmp, 466 Pass Yds, 5 TD, 2 INT, 108.6 Passer Rating

-Lost to the San Francisco 49ers in Divisional Round, 24-21.

Accolades: N/A

5: C.J. Stroud, HOU, Age: 22

C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

In 2023, C.J. Stroud had one of the most impressive rookie seasons the NFL has ever seen. Stroud put together games and plays that made it look like he'd been a 10-year veteran of the NFL. He can make any throw on the football field and rarely makes a mistake, which is incredibly important.

Stroud and the Texans are set up for success for many years with the young receiver room that includes Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Noah Brown. They just acquired All-Pro Stefon Diggs, immediately making them threats in the AFC. Stroud will only continue to improve as he gains experience, and there may be a day he will be argued as the best quarterback in the NFL.

2023 Stats: 15 G, 63.9% Cmp, 4,108 Pass Yds, 23 TD, 5 INT, 100.8 Passer Rating, 167 Rush Yds, 3 TD

Playoffs: 2 G, 64.8% Cmp, 449 Pass Yds, 3 TD, 0 INT, 109.3 Passer Rating

-Lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Divisional Round, 34-10.

Accolades: 1x Pro Bowl

4: Lamar Jackson, BAL, Age: 27

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson took home his second NFL MVP this past season but was still placed outside the top three based on his playoff struggles. Jackson is the greatest rushing quarterback of all time, which makes him so valuable and dangerous. Not only has Jackson struggled in the playoffs, but he has also been injured quite a bit, which has negatively affected his team.

The Ravens are always contenders in the AFC but can never get it done. Lamar shows signs of passing improvement every year but can never put it together when it matters. The Ravens were favored to win the AFC but got knocked out by the Kansas City Chiefs after a horrible all-around team performance. Jackson needs a Super Bowl win to solidify himself as an all-time great.

2023 Stats: 16 G, 67.2% Cmp, 3,678 Pass Yds, 24 TD, 7 INT, 102.7 Passer Rating, 821 Rush Yds, 5 TD

Playoffs: 2 G, 61.0% Cmp, 424 Pass Yds, 3 TD, 1 INT, 92.8 Passer Rating, 154 Rush Yds, 2 TD

-Lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, 17-10.

Accolades: 2x MVP, 3x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro, 1x Pass TD Leader

3: Joe Burrow, CIN, Age: 27

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow is an unbelievable quarterback; he throws football with pinpoint accuracy at all levels of the field. There have never been any questions about Burrow's playing ability; the injuries are the problem. In 2023, he suffered another season-ending injury, a massive blow to the Bengals.

Burrow led the Bengals to the Super Bowl in 2021 before losing to the Los Angeles Rams, and they haven't seen that kind of success since. If Burrow can stay healthy, the Bengals are significant contenders in the AFC, but given his history, it's hard to trust him to stay healthy for an entire season.

2023 Stats: 10 G, 66.8% Cmp, 2,309 Pass Yds, 15 TD, 6 INT, 91.0 Passer Rating

Playoffs: N/A

Accolades: 1x Pro Bowl, 2021 Comeback Player of the Year

2: Josh Allen, BUF, Age: 28

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen has a generational mix of arm talent and running ability. He has a cannon arm and uses his 6'5, 240-pound frame to break tackles, and Allen also has good speed for his size. Allen is talented, as he has led the NFL in total touchdowns since 2020. Allen's main problem is that he turns the ball over too much, but it's not as bad as some fans make it out to be, given that many of his interceptions are "arm punts."

Although Allen is an excellent playoff performer, he can't seem to get by the Kansas City Chiefs, as he's lost to them in the playoffs three different times over his career. Allen lost Stefon Diggs, but he's just too good of a player to regress; he and the Bills will still most likely be in the playoffs, trying to make a Super Bowl run.

2023 Stats: 17 G, 66.5% Cmp, 4,306 Pass Yds, 29 TD, 18 INT, 92.2 Passer Rating, 524 Rush Yds, 15 TD

Playoffs: 2 G, 68.1% Cmp, 389 Pass Yds, 4 TD, 0 INT, 101.7 Passer Rating, 146 Rush Yds, 3 TD

-Lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Divisional Round, 27-24.

Accolades: 2x Pro Bowl

1: Patrick Mahomes, KC, Age: 28

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes will be the number one quarterback in the NFL for the foreseeable future; no other quarterback matches up with him. Mahomes is already in the conversation for the greatest of all time, and his resume will only get better as the years go by. Mahomes had his worst statistical regular season in 2023, but he again proved himself in the playoffs by winning back-to-back Super Bowls.

Mahomes' arm talent is unlike any other player, and his escapability and knack for making something out of nothing are unlike any other. Mahomes and the Chiefs are looking to be the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, and they have a very good chance of doing it, especially considering they've built one of the best defenses in the NFL to help Mahomes out.

2023 Stats: 16 G, 67.2% Cmp, 4,183 Pass Yds, 27 TD, 14 INT, 92.6 Passer Rating, 389 Rush Yds

Playoffs: 4 G, 69.8% Cmp, 1,051 Pass Yds, 6 TD, 1 INT, 100.3 Passer Rating, 141 Rush Yds

-Defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, 25-22.

Accolades: 2x MVP, 1x OPOY, 6x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro, 1x Pass Yds Leader, 2x Pass TD Leader, 3x SB Champ, 3x SB MVP
