The Winnipeg Jets Have Re-Signed This Key Defenseman
The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed defenseman Dylan DeMelo to a four-year, $19.6 million deal, per NHL Insider Chris Johnston.
DeMelo has spent the last five seasons in Winnipeg after starting his career in San Jose and a short stint in Ottawa. The 31-year-old has played 554 career games with 17 goals and 127 assists.
A Disappointing End To The Season For The Jets
Winnipeg had a decent regular season, finishing with a 52-24-6 record, good for 110 points, and second in the Central Division. Mark Scheifele led the team with 72 points, while Kyle Connor scored the most goals during the 2023-24 campaign (34).
Jets fans were hopeful entering their first-round playoff matchup against the Colorado Avalanche. The team game one of the series 7-6, but struggled to find their footing the rest of the way. Colorado won the next four games, outscoring Winnipeg 22-6 in those four meetings.
Jets' Remaining Free Agents
The NHL offseason is only beginning, and the Winnipeg Jets have much to consider as they prepare for the 2025-26 season. Forwards Cole Perfetti and David Gustafsson are both restricted free agents, as is defenceman Logan Stanley.
Meanwhile, Sean Monahan, Tyler Toffoli, Brendan Dillion, Colin Miller, and goaltender Laurent Brossoit are all set to become unrestricted free agents once free agency begins Monday, July 1st.
