These Elite NFL Trade Targets Can Turn Teams Into Contenders In 2023

As the NFL draft approaches, trade rumors become even stronger. Here are multiple stars who could be dealt with. How much can these players help a potential future team?

Budda Baker

Budda Baker has emerged as a star safety in the NFL. Baker flashed his potential from his first season in 2017 when he had 74 tackles and one sack. The former Washington Huskie has shown elite speed and fantastic tackling ability since entering the league. Ever since his rookie year, Budda has never had an NFL season with less than 100 tackles. Baker has consistently had more than 100 tackles and has finished with two or more interceptions every year since 2020.

Baker is one of the best safeties in the NFL if not the best, and his requesting a trade was quite surprising. Baker requested a trade a few years back as he is wanting a contract extension. Baker is a premiere safety in the NFL and he is only 27 years old. Baker should have multiple suitors. Baker provides a fast, athletic presence in the backfield and is also a good veteran to have in the locker room.

Two potential good fits would be the Eagles and the Patriots. The Eagles lost C.J. Gardner-Johnson in free agency to the Lions. Johnson was a ballhawk for the Eagles and finished with six interceptions. Johnson was a great fit with the Eagles as he is a good tackler and can make plays.

If the Eagles can trade for Baker they are essentially upgrading at that position. This move would be very savvy for the Eagles and would help them get back to the Super Bowl next year.

The Patriots lost their franchise safety in Devin McCourty. New England has one of the best safeties in the NFL currently with Kyle Dugger, and pairing him with Baker would form one of the best duos in the NFL. New England has looked for faster more athletic players who can tackle, so Baker would be a good fit. Having Baker and Dugger locked in for the long term would give New England one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Dalvin Cook

Dalvin Cook is a premiere running back in the NFL. Cook has had over 1,000 yards rushing for four seasons straight, and he provides a dynamic element that not many other running backs can. Cook averages 4.7 yards per carry and he’s been a very effective back. Cook has been a bell-cow back and he has not disappointed. However, paying running backs is not a good formula for today’s NFL. Cook has a $63 million-dollar contract, so there have been rumors that the Vikings are attempting to part ways.

Cook is going into his age 28 season and the Vikings have Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson due for extensions soon. Cook is a premiere playmaking back and should have a good market.

The best fit would be the Bengals or Dolphins. While the Dolphins have a very dynamic offense in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, they don’t have a true playmaking running back. They currently have Raheem Mostert as their lead back and are looking for an upgrade.
