Two NFL Running Backs Who Could Breakout In 2024
In the NFL it is always important to have a franchise quarterback. Having a good offensive line, receiving corps, secondary, and special teams is also vital. But one of the least valuable positions in the league is running back.
In recent years, the importance has decreased, allowing teams to avoid paying big money to their star running backs in exchange for cheaper options. These two running backs have benefited from this change as they will likely both be promoted to starters entering 2024.
Zamir White and Zack Moss are two running backs who could break out in 2024. White has a great opportunity to start following the departure of Josh Jacobs, while Zack Moss has signed with a team that just lost their lead back in Joe Mixon.
Zamir White, Las Vegas Raiders
The 2022 fourth-round pick out of Georgia started his career backing up starter Josh Jacobs, who led the NFL in rushing yards during White’s rookie season. After Jacobs left Las Vegas for Green Bay this off-season, White will now have the chance to start for the Raiders this season.
White got a taste of the action last season when Jacobs was out due to injury. He rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown in his first-ever start in Week 15. In the last four games of the season, the former Georgia star had 17+ carries in each game and rushed for over 60 yards in all four games including two where he hit the century mark.
Even though the team brought in Alexander Mattison, White will be the starter and should get a chance to have a breakout season with this new opportunity.
Zack Moss, Cincinnati Bengals
The former Indianapolis Colts running back is getting a starting role in the Cincinnati Bengals offense. Zack Moss didn’t get much of an opportunity during his first few years in the NFL, but the 26-year-old opened his eyes last season.
With starter Jonathan Taylor out due to injury, Moss started eight games and appeared in 14, rushing for 794 yards and five touchdowns. He was a fantasy football star and helped the Colts win some tough games. With Indianapolis giving big money to Taylor, it was time for Moss to earn his paycheck elsewhere.
Longtime starter Joe Mixon was traded earlier in the off-season which led the way to Zack Moss signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. While he will have competition with sophomore back Chase Brown, Moss will easily become the lead back with a follow-up performance as good as last season. Moss is a good player to bet on breaking out in 2024.
