This 2022 UDFA Could Help The Cowboys’ Offense

Following the NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys have been noted as having one of the best undrafted free agent (UDFA) classes this year. With notable names such as Florida A&M (FAMU) safety Markquese Bell, Boston College center Alec Lindstrom, USC cornerback Issac Taylor-Stuart, and others. There’s one name that remains under the radar and that is former Indiana wide receiver, Ty Fryfogle.

Who Is Ty Fryfogle?

Fryfogle was a two-star athlete coming out of high school lettering in football and basketball at George County HS (Mississippi). After high school, Fryfogle enrolled at Indiana in 2017, and in his freshman year, he played in eight games. In his sophomore year, he had 381 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.

By 2020, his career took off, becoming the first Indiana receiver to win All-American honors since 2007. Fryfogle finished 2020 with 37 catches, 721 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns.

In addition, Fryfogle was awarded the Big Ten receiver of the year and finished eleventh place for the Biletnikoff Award. He was named the best wide receiver in college football for that season. His fifth year wasn’t as good but was decent with 46 catches, 512 receiving yards, and one touchdown.

Ty Fryfogle Evaluation

Ty has the ability to track, grab the contested ball in traffic, and have the body control to make the right adjustments to catch the ball. He may not be the most dynamic runner after he catches the ball but he is willing to lower his shoulder to absorb contact to maintain his balance. He does not have the elite top-end speed but he has that ability to give the defensive back that stutter step and hesitation to throw them off and get separation.

Throughout the majority of his career at Indiana, Fryfogle played outside receiver but saw playing time at the slot as well. Overall, his best chance to make this team is to bring the versatility to play both. Speed and route running will need to be improved if he wants to succeed in the NFL.

What Fryfogle Needs To Do To Make The Cowboys Roster

Overall, Fryfogle is in the running to be the number six receiver on the team. He is in competition with veteran Noah Brown, TJ Vasher, and the other UDFAs. At the sixth receiver spot, Ty will need to bring special team value and continue to improve as a route runner to have a chance on this team.

Yes, he brings value as a good contested catch receiver but he will have to add to his arsenal to have a chance to make this team. As of now, his best chance of making this roster is to make the practice squad. From there, he needs to continue to develop as a wide receiver and be ready for when the opportunity comes for him to play. He might not be catching touchdowns from Dak in 2022 but down the road, Fryfogle could be a huge boost to this offense.
