Labor Day marks the official unofficial start of the fall and, most importantly, football season. College football is in full swing, and the NFL is approaching. The hype of this season seems more significant than ever before, and one of the biggest media darlings this year is the Detroit Lions. The Lions drafted Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th pick in this year's draft, which experts called a "reach." By halftime of their first game, they'll change their mind.
Jahmyr Gibbs Is A Dual Threat Machine
He wasn't well known in college until he transferred to Alabama for his last season. He was used in multiple ways at Georgia Tech, including on kickoff returns for his first two years. He then transferred to Alabama and became the most meaningful threat in an offense with the Heisman trophy winner Bryce Young as his quarterback.
Gibbs was consistent in the run game but shined as a pass catcher, showcasing an innate ability to make defenders miss. He improved his draft stock tremendously during the 2022 season, and the Lions are excited about their top pick. Detroit boasted a top-5 offense in the league last year, led by offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and quarterback Jared Goff. Expect them to use Gibbs in different spots, including as a slot receiver.
Gibbs is built like a tank and has proven he can handle a major workload over his college career. I expect nothing less in the pros. Gibbs is destined for a dominant year on a team that has big expectations for the first time in a long time. Gibbs is going to demoralize the rest of the NFC & win Rookie of the Year.
