This Superstar Could Be The Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Of The Future
The Minnesota Vikings are entering a new era of Skol Football as the team is in search of its next franchise quarterback after 35-year-old Kirk Cousins, who signed with the team in the 2018 off-season to at the time the most expensive contract in National Football League history, parted ways with the team in favor of the upstart Atlanta Falcons, who have a good roster that was a quarterback away from competing.
The team signed former Jets first-round pick Sam Darnold to a one-year deal and has backup Jaren Hall still on the roster. But the team is looking towards the future and it is highly likely that their franchise quarterback could be found in the 2024 NFL Draft. After the Vikings traded a couple second round picks to move up back into the first-round of the draft, they now have picks 11 and 23, which provides great value to trade up into the top five.
While he may be available by the 11th pick, it is likely that Minnesota trades up with a team like the Cardinals (#4), Chargers (#5), and targets a strong-armed Michigan quarterback that they are reportedly in love with. It feels likely that Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy will be a Minnesota Viking.
J.J. McCarthy Looks To Bring Success To Minnesota
J.J. McCarthy is the 21 year-old junior quarterback of Michigan, who led his team to the 2024 NCAA National Championship with a dominate victory over Washington and fellow draft prospect quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Now the two-year starter will take his talents to the NFL after throwing for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns and only four interceptions in 15 games for the Wolverines and leading them to a perfect 15-0 record in 2023. He only lost one game in two seasons at Michigan.
With the Minnesota Vikings entering a potential rebuild with many changes throughout the organization and roster, McCarthy can help turn the team around and get back to competing within a few years, especially if the Vikings keep superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is arguably the best wide receiver in the league.
