Three Bold Predictions For The Jets' 2023 Season
The start of the NFL season for New York begins tonight, so let’s speculate on what can be accomplished this year.
After a 7-4 start to the season last year and a defense that finished in the top five, the Jets felt that they were a quarterback away from being a contender.
With Aaron Rodgers now on the roster, what can we expect from the Jets in 2023?
Jets Will Win At Least One Playoff Game
The AFC East will presumably be the Bills division to lose, but that doesn’t mean the Jets or Dolphins can’t make things interesting. There’s no telling what the division standings will look like by the end of the season. With that being said, I believe that the Jets will make the playoffs in 2023.
New York is currently in a 12-year playoff drought, so climbing over that hurdle will be long overdue. Whether the Jets get in by way of a division crown or a wildcard spot is yet to be seen, but once Gang Green is in the tournament, my prediction is that they will win at least one playoff game.
With the amount of hype around this team this season and what they gave up to acquire four-time MVP QB Aaron Rodgers, this prediction is not too far-fetched. It would be disappointing if this team was a first-round exit and a failure if they would miss the playoffs entirely. So I say the Jets will find their way to the divisional round, hopefully playing in front of their own fans.
Jets Will Trade for An Offensive Lineman
In preparation for the 2023 season, New York has been doing their best to surround Aaron Rodgers with enough talent. After sending WR Elijah Moore to Cleveland, the Jets have shown interest in wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins before they both signed with their respective new teams. New York also recently signed Dalvin Cook in order to add more talent to the running back room.
With the most recent news of wide receiver Corey Davis retiring from football, rumors have been circulating over who the Jets could add to replace him. Players like Buccaneers WR Mike Evans and Raiders WR Davante Adams have been thrown into the conversation as possible trade targets. While I can see New York being in the conversation for one of those guys at this year’s trade deadline, I’m willing to bet that they might be in the market to improve another area of the team.
The offensive line has been a question mark all off-season in terms of who the Jets would be starting as their “best five.” Two of the three starters in Mekhi Becton and Alijah Vera-Tucker dealt with season-ending injuries last year, while left tackle, Duane Brown, played through a torn rotator cuff all last season which required off-season surgery.
It will of course all depend on how the season is progressing leading up to the trade deadline. If Rodgers ends up on the ground more than he should, don’t rule out the Jets inquiring about any offensive lineman that may be available.
Aaron Rodgers Will Be An MVP Candidate
Aaron Rodgers seems like a new man ever since arriving in New York. He looks happy, healthy, and as motivated as ever. He’s got plenty of weapons at his disposal and even if the offensive line doesn’t perform in the way that they should, I expect the Jets to address that issue to the best of their ability.
With all of that being said, if New York gets the player that Aaron Rodgers has been for the majority of his career, there’s no reason why we can’t see him in the running to win his third MVP in four seasons.
Now I’m not sure if he is going to end up taking home the trophy, but if certain things go the Jets' way, I can without a doubt see him being a part of the conversation.
