Top 10 NFL Coaches In The NFL
Updated: Jun 12
The NFL boasts a wide range of coaching talent. While you might not agree with the ranking of every coach, I based this list on Super Bowl wins and recent performance. These coaches showcase coaching excellence through their innovative game plans, strong player development skills, and their ability to motivate and lead their teams to success.
10. Shane Steichen
Currently serves as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, some may have differing opinions, but his track record with quarterbacks like Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts places him as a top 10 coach in my opinion. His skills in developing quarterbacks suggest that he will soon be in the top 5.
9. DeMeco Ryans
The former Houston Texans linebacker, DeMeco Ryans, is now the head coach of the team. After retiring as a player, DeMeco joined the coaching staff of the 49ers. He quickly advanced through the ranks, becoming the defensive coordinator in 2021 and the head coach of the Texans last year. In his first year as head coach, he led the team to the playoffs and a divisional win.
8. Dan Campbell
Dan Campbell currently serves as the head coach of the Detroit Lions and led the team to within a game of the Super Bowl last year. Known for his gritty coaching style, Campbell places a strong emphasis on toughness, resilience, and a robust work ethic to shape the team's culture.
7. Matt LaFleur
After the last season, we saw Matt LaFleur stepping up and coaching the team with Aaron Rodgers being traded to the Jets. LaFleur guided Jordan Love to his first playoff victory. He's recognized as a great offensive mind and quarterback coach in the league. Although he hasn't won a Super Bowl yet, I believe he's not far from doing so.
6. Nick Sirianni
Nick Sirianni has been the head coach of the Eagles since 2021. Sirianni led the team to the Super Bowl but unfortunately lost to Patrick Mahomes. He is known for his excellent offensive strategies, player development, and leadership qualities. He deserves to be mentioned on this list.
5. Sean McVay
In 2017, Sean McVay became the youngest head coach in NFL history at the age of 30. Since then, he has led his team to two Super Bowl appearances and secured a victory in one of them. McVay holds the record as the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl and to win Coach of the Year.
4. Mike Tomlin
Mike Tomlin has been the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2007. He won a Super Bowl in 2008; in 17 seasons, he has never had a losing season. Tomlin is easily a top 5 coach in the league and could be ranked even higher. His leadership and defensive expertise have kept him at the top.
3. John Harbaugh
Since 2008, John Harbaugh has been the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Harbaugh won a Super Bowl in 2012 and has the quarterback to get back right now it's just when. His leadership and adaptability have consistently kept him and the Ravens at the top.
2. Kyle Shanahan
Kyle Shanahan is a great coach with an innovative offensive scheme but hasn't yet won the big game. Patrick Mahomes is one obstacle standing in his way. Shanahan has transformed the 49ers into a powerhouse just one successful drive away from a Super Bowl victory.
1. Andy Reid
When discussing the top coaches in the NFL, it's essential to mention Andy Reid. As a three-time Super Bowl champion, he's widely considered the best coach in the NFL and has the privilege of coaching the best player in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes. Andy Reid has played a key role in developing Mahomes into the best quarterback in the league.
The NFL season is almost here, and I've compiled a list of my top 10 NFL head coaches. I'm curious to hear your thoughts! Share a comment about your least favorite and favorite coach.
