Top Five NFL Offensive Free Agents

The NFL offseason is in full swing with Free Agency around the corner. This is the time of the year all 32 teams are evaluating their rosters and positioning themselves for improvement. Free agency is also the first time of the year we get to see where each teams’ priorities lie for the upcoming season.

The offense is the name of the game nowadays. NFL teams are either looking for more offensive weapons or trying to keep the ones they have. This year’s class is loaded with offensive talent. Particularly at the wide receiver position. Here is a look at the top five offensive free agents in 2022.

One: Davante Adams, WR

Davante Adams is arguably the best offensive player in all of football. Over the past two seasons, he’s been the most dominant receiver in the league. Since 2020 he amassed 238 receptions for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns (https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16800/davante-adams).

There is literally nothing Davante Adams can’t do when it comes to the receiver position. His best asset is his release. He’s unstoppable one on one and defenses are fully aware. Adding a player of Adams pedigree will cost a hefty price and will likely pay off with hefty production.

Two: Chris Godwin, WR

Other than coming off a season-ending ACL injury, Chris Godwin is hitting free agency at a great time. He’s been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL over the past couple of seasons and has a Superbowl victory under his belt. At 6’1 208 pounds Godwin is a versatile receiver that can play inside the slot or outside. He is also very productive in the run game. At age 26 the former third-round pick out of Penn State would be an immediate upgrade to most teams in search of an alpha pass catcher. He’s a WR1 entering his prime!

Three: Amari Cooper, WR

As of today, Amari Cooper is still on the Dallas Cowboys roster. However, according to multiple NFL reports, the Cowboys will be releasing Cooper sooner than later. https://www.thescore.com/nfl/news/2262974.

Amari Cooper is a talented enigma at the wide receiver position. He is one of the best route runners in the game today. So far in his eight-year career, Amari has posted four seasons with over 1000 receiving yards split between Oakland and Dallas. At age 27, Amari has a lot left in the tank yet it seems the Cowboys are ready to move on. I expect him to be heavily sought after if he becomes available.

Four: Allen Robinson, WR

The Chicago Bears’ marriage with Allen Robinson appears to be coming to an end. Bears fans attempted to pressure the team into resigning Robinson long-term but that never transpired. Now Robinson is entering free agency, looking for a new home, and will be attempting to do so coming off his worst statistical season. (https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16799/allen-robinson-ii)

There’s a case to be made for Robinson’s recent decline. He definitely suffered from a poor offensive scheme and subpar quarterback play in Chicago. While the talent is there, Robinson will be turning 29 when the 2022 season begins. Finding a team with a strong system and an elite quarterback should be the top priority for “A-Rob”.

Five: Rob Gronkowski, TE

To round out the top five offensive free agents I’m concluding with a tight end, Rob Gronkowski. Gronkowski is undoubtedly a hall of fame talent. The ‘Gronk Show’ is one of a kind on and off the field. Teams don’t typically get an opportunity to sign a talent of this stature. At age 32 and 11 seasons into his career, Gronk would be a great addition to a Superbowl contender. He’s a mismatch nightmare for defensive coordinators. I anticipate a handful of contenders making a run at Gronk during free agency.
