Four States That Have The Best Professional Sports Teams
One of the best aspects that comes along with the world's love for sports is the fact that each fan has a specific reason for supporting the teams they do. Whether that be the location, players or coaches, success, visual appearances, playing style, and or personal connections, it is undeniable that certain states seem to hold a majority of the best professional teams.
4) Pennsylvania
Starting with Pennsylvania, located in Pittsburgh, are the Steelers, who are currently tied with the New England Patriots, at six, for the most won Super Bowls in history. The NHL's Penguins are hosted in Pennsylvania, have 37 playoff appearances, won five Stanley Cups, and are among the most successful NHL franchises.
Although Pennsylvania might not seem like a standard option for this category, some of the most popular and supported teams also come out of Pennsylvania, including MLB teams, the Phillies and Pirates, the NBA's 76ers, and the MLS team Philadelphia Union.
3) Texas
Next, heading South, we have Texas, which holds three NBA teams, two NFL and MLB teams, one MSL team, and an AFL team. These teams in Texas are some of the most well-known and followed organizations. Known as “America's Team,” the Dallas Cowboys are one of the most popular NFL teams in the league. They have five Super Bowl wins and eight conference championships.
Eight championships have been won by the NBA teams in Texas. The Houston Comets, one of two WNBA teams located in Texas, are also tied for the most WNBA championships.
2) New York
The Empire State, New York, comes in second. Most significantly, the Yankees hold 27 World Series Titles in New York, far more than any other MLB team.
The Rangers and Islanders each have four NHL Stanley Cup wins. In addition, combined between the Giants and Jets, New York has four NFL Super Bowl wins. The New York Liberty team is ranked number one this season in the WNBA. There are also two AFL teams and one MSL team in New York.
1) California
California appears to have some of the most well-rounded teams. Not only does California have the most professional sports franchises, but it also has some of the most accomplished teams.
California has five different MLB teams: the Dodgers, Giants, Angles, A’s, and the Padres. The Giants lead the state with the most World Series Titles with eight wins, and the Dodgers follow right behind with seven.
There are four NBA teams and one WNBA team in the state. In the NBA league, the Lakers are among the most successful and elite teams, second behind the Boston Celtics, with 17 national championships.
Out of the three NFL teams that call California home, there are nine Super Bowl wins.
The state also has two MLS teams, with the LA Galaxy holding the title of the most MLS championships, three NHL teams, and one Australian Football League (AFL) team.
