Grading The Insane Acquisition By The New York Jets

The NFL Trade Deadline is almost here, and it is a time when teams make moves to either be aggressive or get out of a bad situation. Moves made can also be the most obvious, like the most recent transaction. The Las Vegas Raiders made the move to trade WR Davante Adams to the New York Jets. The details of that trade are down below.

Details Of WR Davante Adams Trade

Las Vegas Raiders Acquire: A Conditional 3rd Round Pick

New York Jets Acquire: WR Davante Adams

Conditions of 3rd Round Pick

The 3rd Round Pick Transfers to a 2nd Round Pick If Adams becomes an All-Pro, or the Jets reach the AFC Championship this season

Las Vegas Raiders Side

This is going to be short and straightforward. Davante Adams was pissed off and wanted to leave the moment Derek Carr left the team. He only came to Vegas to play with him, and Adams was unhappy when he was forced out.

Adams wanted to leave the Raiders from that point. Another season with Aidan O'Connell was enough to put him over the edge. The Raiders get a Day 2 pick and get out of Adams's ridiculous contact.

New York Jets Side

Is anybody shocked about the Jets getting Davante Adams? This is the most unsurprising trade of the year, and it's not even close. Davante Adams was angry and wanted to leave the Raiders, and it was obvious he wanted to play with Aaron Rodgers. Adams is a fantastic player, and he will help improve the offense, but this is a band-aid-type transaction.

A wide receiver is not the biggest problem, but it is a move where a Jets team triples down on going all in. The Jets are desperate as Joe Douglas is trying to save his job, and Adams could help if he stays healthy. Remember, he has been dealing with a Hamstring injury the past few weeks, and he's turning 32 in December.

A third-round pick is fair value, and while the conditions could go to a second-round pick, it's not going to happen. The Jets need to reach the AFC Championship or Adams becomes an All-Pro for the pick to transfer, and that is unlikely. One thing is for sure: this is not good news for Mike Williams, who is likely going to get fewer chances on this offense.

Grades for Davante Adams Trade

Las Vegas Raiders: A & New York Jets: C

I love this deal for the Las Vegas Raiders. They get out of a ridiculous contract and get value for a player who wanted out. The Jets get one of the best receivers in football, but it's too little too late.

The Jets lost a must-win game against the Bills last week, and their chances of making the playoffs went down as a result. This is especially true given how dysfunctional this franchise is, and getting Adams does not fix the major issues with this team. It hurts, too, that the Jets got Adams's ridiculous contract, which is going to make it tough to resign the core.

The evidence will be clear when the bill to extend Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, etc., comes due. Overall, this was a win for the Raiders and a very aggressive move for the Jets.
