Breaking News! The Kansas City Chiefs Acquire Former Pro Bowl Weapon

The NFL has been on fire with wide receiver trades. The Jets earlier acquired Davante Adams, and the Buffalo Bills acquired Amari Cooper, all via trade. Well, the Kansas City Chiefs have added their names to the list of teams buying at the deadline at Wide Receiver. They have agreed on a deal with the Tennessee Titans to acquire WR DeAndre Hopkins via trade.

Details of DeAndre Hopkins Trade

Tennessee Titans: Conditional 4th Round Pick Kansas City Chiefs: WR DeAndre Hopkins

Tennesse Titans Side

Get the Tanks dusted off Titans fans. When a trade like this occurs, it's a clear sign that they have given up on the season and are looking at the future of the team. Yes, they are in the AFC South, but with Will Levis/Mason Rudolph as the starting QB options, it's unlikely the Titans would catch up.

It has been constantly rumored that the Titans were looking to trade pieces and the name constantly brought up is DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins at 33 and on a hefty contract was going to be tough to move, but they got it done. The Titans are going to take a portion of Hopkins's Salary.

Hopkins was done as a Titan when the Titans organization signed Tyler Boyd and Calvin Ridley in free agency. The writing was on the wall and it's better to get some value for him than nothing because Hopkins was not coming back next season.

Kansas City Chiefs Side

Entering the NFL season, the wide receiver was seen as the biggest weakness for the Kansas City Chiefs. Many analysts and fans thought Travis Kelce was going to hide the weakness at wide receiver, but he has shown a ton of regression this season. Honestly, Noah Gray has been a better tight end than Kelce this season.

The Chiefs needed a wide receiver badly. Excluding Xavier Worthey, almost every receiver on the Chiefs is hurt or is terrible. Rashee Rice went down for the rest of the season, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown has not played once due to a shoulder issue, and JuJu Smith-Schuster is dealing with a hamstring issue. Plus, it was obvious the lack of receiving talent had hurt Mahomes. He's had more interceptions this season than touchdowns. While Hopkins is not the receiver he once was, he is a better option than what the Chiefs currently have.

Grades For DeAndre Hopkins Trade

Tennessee Titans - B -

Kansas City Chiefs - B+

Overall, this is a good trade for both sides, but the Chiefs get the higher grade here. They desperately needed a wide receiver badly, are in the win-now mode to keep their dynasty going, and won't pay Hopkins's entire contract this season. The Titans don't lose in this deal as they get rid of a piece that wasn't in the future and get a mid-round pick. The only negative for Tennessee is that they have to pay a portion of Hopkins' contract. Excellent transaction and hopefully it works out for both sides.
