Is Travis Kelce Still A Top-Tier TE For Fantasy At 34?
Travis Kelce continues to rewrite the history books for tight ends in the NFL, having already solidified his place as one of the best. He looked well on his way to another banner year, finishing as a top-8 tight end in 10 of his first 12 games and a top-5 tight end in 7 of those.
However, when fantasy players needed him the most, he fell off a cliff and looked very much his age in the fantasy playoffs, delivering two TE20 and a TE34 performance when owners needed him the most. In those last three weeks, Kelce combined for 13 receptions, 78 yards, and no touchdowns over one of the most disappointing stretches of his career.
But Kelce did what he has done as well as anyone in league history and bounced back in a big way in the NFL playoffs, totaling 32 receptions for 355 yards and 3 touchdowns while breaking Jerry Rice's record for playoff receptions and helping the Chiefs to another Super Bowl win. Now, at age 34, he returns to try to win a third in a row, but this Chiefs offense will look very different.
With the addition of speed demons in rookie Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown, Kelce will have more target competition than he has had since Tyreek Hill's departure. The big question mark is the status of second-year receiver Rashee Rice. When Rice returns, Mahomes will likely have more viable targets than ever.
But the connection between Mahomes and Kelce is as good as we have ever seen, and it is tough to imagine him ceding a ton of his target share at this point in his career. Once again, look for Kelce to be Mahomes' favorite target.
