Trey Benson Has An Elite Profile For Fantasy Production
Trey Benson was drafted with the 66th overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals, who added a plethora of young talent in this most recent draft, including Marvin Harrison Jr. Benson only played full-time at Florida State for two years. During that time, he had 310 carries for 1896 yards (6.1 yards per carry) and 23 touchdowns and 33 receptions for 371 yards (11.2 yards per reception) and 1 touchdown.
He has size and strength with breakaway speed (4.39 40-yard dash time). Benson has an elusive rating of 106.4, with 45 missed tackles forced and 551 yards after contact in 2023. Trey has elite potential within his profile, but the Cardinals have been committed to James Connor as their lead back when healthy (he averaged 234 touches a season). Conner has never played a full 17-game season, missing at least four games in the last two seasons.
The Cardinals will want to keep Conner fresh, so splitting the workload could be an option for Arizona. Kyler will already take 15-25% of the rushing attempts; the other 75-85% should be split between Conner and Benson, with the slight majority going to Conner. Emari Demarcardo and Michael Carter won't be used regularly. If Conner continues to miss a couple of games a season, Benson could have RB1 upside in year one.
Arizona added to their offensive line, and Jonathan Ganon showed he could create a system that fosters high-end RB production (Conner ended the 2023 season with finishes of RB5, RB11, RB4, RB4, & RB1). Benson has a good chance to be a solid flex contributor this season, and at 132 players off the board, it's a decent value if you already have a consistent roster. In Dynasty rookie drafts, Trey Benson has been habitually going at the 1/2 turn, which is good for the new team or rebuilders if you are going for a youthful build in startups.
Our consensus projections for Benson in the 2024 season are 147 carries for 682 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. As well as 32 receptions, 184 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
