Trey Lance's Last Minute Drive

They said that he was washed up, that he would never be comfortable in Kyle Shanahan's system. They pondered the possibilities of all that the 49ers gave up to draft him third overall just a couple of years ago. Perhaps the prognosticators were right. But tonight, Trey Lance showed a glimpse of what the 49ers thought he could be.

One Mississippi

With less than two minutes left in the game and the 49ers down by two against the Broncos backed up on their own 21-yard line, Lance zipped a pass to Ronnie Bell, trusting in the seventh-rounder's speed. He didn't disappoint.

As Bell zipped through Denver's secondary and dutifully followed his blockers, hope began to rise in the City by the Bay. For while it was merely a preseason game, much was riding on Trey Lance's performance. But the question remains: did Bell make Lance look good or did Lance make Bell look good?

Two Mississippi

With the 49ers at their own 35-yard line, they could smell victory within their grasp. All they needed was one big passing play from the man that they once believed could be their savior.

Once again, Trey Lance found Ronnie Bell, this time over the middle for a 43-yard gain. As he tumbled to the turf at the Broncos' 22-yard line, the 49er Faithful began to believe again in Lance.

Three Mississippi

This whole week, the prognosticators have taken jabs at both Trey Lance and rookie kicker Jake Moody. While has been excellent in practice, Jake Moody's confidence seemed to crumble when the 49ers lost to the Raiders.

The crowd held its collective breath as Moody wound up his leg to kick a chip-shot field goal. He didn't make it look easy as the football barely grazed the right vertical bar. But a win is a win and with victory comes questions. Is this the drive that saves Trey Lance's career?
