Trey Palmer Has A Tough Path To Fantasy Value
Trey Palmer entered the NFL last season as a sixth-round rookie. While Palmer wasn't the most fantastic player, he showed moments of brilliance last season. He was targeted 68 times, made 39 receptions for 385 yards, and even caught 3 touchdowns.
It's a pretty good start for a 6th round pick, and he has the potential to improve on this roster. However, for all the buzz that Palmer got toward the end of last season, he only had one top-24 finish in Week 17. The rest of the time, he wasn't useful for fantasy.
Here is the problem with projecting a second-year breakout: Tampa is loaded at wide receiver. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are the notable names, but the Buccaneers also made additions in the offseason.
They signed Sterling Shepherd to the team and even used a third-round selection on Jalen McMillan. That's not even getting into the team's tight ends and running backs. The key information here is that there are plenty of mouths to feed in that locker room on offense.
Palmer is an intriguing pick to make in dynasty leagues since he can be stashed in case he develops into a fantasy contributor, but in regard to fantasy drafts, it's best to leave him on the waiver wire.
Our consensus projections for Palmer in the 2024 season are 26 receptions, 253 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
