Tyreek Hill Top-Five Moments For The Chiefs

When you thought the NFL free agency period couldn’t heat up more, think again. Yesterday afternoon the Chiefs announced they had traded superstar wide receiver to the Miami Dolphins for a boatload of draft picks. The Dolphins immediately signed Hill to a four-year, $120 million deal. To see all of the details, you can follow this link here.

With Hill now in Miami, the only thing left to do besides sulk and cry that he is gone is to reminisce on the good moments. He will be remembered for his incredible speed and the plethora of amazing plays. That being said, let’s take a look at the top-five Tyreek Hill moments as a Kansas City Chief.

The dynamic duo of Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill was one of the most dangerous passing combos ever. Coincidentally, Mahomes’ first career touchdown was to Hill back on September 9th, 2018. Mahomes hit Hill on a slant route and watched as Hill took it 57-yards to the house.

From then on, the connection between the two was nearly unstoppable. Mahomes to Hill became a household play call. The duo became known for the perfect throw and catch in stride. This duo/connection will surely be missed.

Flashback to the 2020 Divisional Round game against the Browns. A game where the Chiefs were without Mahomes for most of the second half. In stepped Chad Henne, and while it wasn’t pretty, he got the job done. The best part about it? The one-yard catch by Tyreek Hill seals the game for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs needed a single yard on fourth down on their 49-yard line. Henne rolled out and hit Hill on a dime. Hill scampered for a five-yard gain, which sealed a win for the Chiefs. Moments like this one are what made Hill such a threat on the field. No matter where he needed to be, he got there and made a play.

Back in 2019, the Chiefs trailed the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 and faced a fourth-and-nine from their 40 with 1:29 remaining. In true Mahomes fashion, he rolled outright and, before being tackled, launched the ball. At first, it seemed like an absurd throw that would end the game in a loss for KC. However, the speedster himself, Tyreek Hill, found himself 48-yards down the field and catching the pass.

The Chiefs would go on to win in overtime. Like I said before, plays like this are what made the Mahomes-Hill connection elite. Hill is one of the best deep threats in the NFL based on his speed and ability to find the open space in the field. Hopefully, Tua can find this connection with Hill, and they will surely win more games.

The most recent Tyreek memory comes from what was probably the best NFL playoff game/quarter of all time. The Chiefs trailed the Buffalo Bills 29-26 with 1:13 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Divisional Round game at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City needed a score to stay in the game or go ahead.

Then in true Chiefs fashion, Mahomes finds Hill across the middle of the field. Hill would leave four defenders in the dust and cruise into the endzone. The best part about this play? Hill threw up his famous “peace sign” celebration as he ran into the endzone. The Chiefs would go on to win in overtime and advance to yet another AFC title game. Big-time plays from a big-time player.

February 2nd, 2020, Super Bowl 54 is on the line, and the Chiefs trail the 49ers 20-10 and face a third-and-15 from their 35-yard line with 7:13 remaining. The Chiefs need a big play to convert on third down—the next play in the book: Jet Chip Wasp. The rest is history, folks, as this play will live on in KC and the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes found Tyreek on a 44-yard pass that saw him break free and make the catch. This was the start of a three-touchdown run that would seal the game. Kansas City became Super Bowl champions for the first time since 1970. Tyreek Hill is the recipient of Jet Chip Wasp, the greatest Chiefs play of all time, all but solidifies why Hill was so important to the Chiefs’ success overall.

Final Thoughts

I am sure I missed a play or two, but these five plays stand out above them all, at least for me. Hill redefined the wide receiver position with his unreal speed. He became an elite receiver that helped lead the Chiefs to another Super Bowl. Does it help to have Mahomes throw you the ball? Yes, absolutely, but he still made plays that not many in the NFL can make.

Hill will be dearly missed in KC, but business is business, and now it is time for the next chapter for Hill and the Chiefs. Thank you, Tyreek Hill, for all the memories and incredible plays you brought to KC. Kansas City wishes you all the best in Miami.
