Vikings Draft Andrew Booth Jr. And Ed Ingram
Viking’s GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah addressed two positions of need for the Vikings in the 2nd Round of the NFL Draft. Now that these players are officially Vikings, it’s time to take a closer look at their player profiles.
Vikings Trade-Up For Andrew Booth
After trading the 34th overall pick to acquire the 53rd and 59th pick, the Vikings traded back up to the 42nd overall pick to select Andrew Booth Jr., a cornerback out of Clemson.
Booth has all the makings to be a special player in the NFL. However, teams were cautious about picking him in the 1st round because of his extensive and worrisome medical history.
Booth has elite footwork and the ability to adapt to any coverage. Two traits that make him a valuable asset to the Vikings. Booth will likely step in and become an instant starter opposite Patrick Peterson.
He was a two-year starter at Clemson, and according to Dane Brugler’s scouting report, “Booth’s tape has some volatility and he must mature his feel for spacing, but he has fluid athleticism, finds the football, and disrupts the catch point, three important ingredients to playing the position at a high level. In addition, he has NFL starting traits (if he stays healthy) and projects best in a man-heavy scheme.”
Booth surrendered 29 catches on 46 targets for 312 yards in 2021, per PFF.
Ed Ingram At Pick 59
Following the selection of Andrew Booth Jr., the Vikings picked up Ed Ingram, a four-year starter out of LSU.
According to Dane Brugler’s scouting report, “Ingram needs to clean up his leaning and hand mechanics, but he has the explosive upper body, strong base, and competitive temperament to match up with defensive interior linemen at the next level. He is scheme-versatile and looks like a future NFL starter.”
Ingram will likely compete for the starting right guard position with Jesse Davis, Wyatt Davis, and Chris Reed during training camp. Ingram started 12 games at right guard during the 2017 season. However, in 2021 Ingram played left guard and was selected to 2nd Team All-SEC.
In 2018, Ingram was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault that involved a minor. These two charges were dropped a year later, in 2019. Ingram was 16 when he was accused of these crimes.
Overall, the Vikings were able to land two talented players, but they both have their respective red flags. The silver lining, both players will undoubtedly compete for starting jobs during their rookie campaigns.
