Washington Commanders Acquire Future Hall-Of-Famer In Big Move

The Washington Commanders are entering a huge off-season. After finishing 4-13 and missing the playoffs, the team has the second-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and plenty of cap space to work with. With new head coach Dan Quinn, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons, and new general manager Adam Peters, the two have had big decisions to make. As free agency is now open, the team has signed this future Hall-Of-Fame defensive player.

The Commanders have been busy at work so far this off-season. So far they have signed former Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, former Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, former Chiefs guard Nick Allegretti, former Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz, and former Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn. Now the team has added future Hall-Of-Famer Bobby Wagner.

Commanders Upgrade Defense With Bobby Wagner

Bobby Wagner will be joining his third NFL team since being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. A member of the Legion Of Boom defense, Wagner has been one of the best linebackers in the history of the NFL. With nearly 2,000 tackles to his name, the 33-year old also has 33 sacks and 13 career interceptions. He has forced six fumbles and recovered ten. He also scored three defensive touchdowns including a 98-yard pick-six in 2018.

Wagner has also been incredibly healthy as well. Since 2015, he has only missed 3 games including playing all 17 games the past two seasons. He will now join Dan Quinn, who he was coached under in 2013 and 2014 where he won the Super Bowl over the Denver Broncos. Washington is building up a defense that was one of the league's best in 2020 before losing key pieces such as Montez Sweat, Chase Young, and Kendell Fuller over the past year.

Bobby Wagner officially signed his contract on Friday signing for one year on a deal worth over eight million. Will this signing help Washington's defense return to elite status and help the Commanders become this year's breakout team, or will it be another year without playoffs for a team that has only reached the postseason once since 2015?
